Support for impeachment has slipped in Wisconsin, according to Wednesday's Marquette University Law School Poll.
And for the first time, President Donald Trump has surged ahead of all four top Democratic rivals in potential head-to-head matchups.
Just 40% of Wisconsin registered voters believe Trump should be impeached and removed from office, while 53% disagreed, according to the survey
The poll of 801 registered Wisconsin voters was conducted Nov. 13 through Sunday, during the opening week of public hearings in the House impeachment inquiry.
In October, before public testimony began, the Marquette poll showed that 44% said the president should be impeached and removed while 51% said he should not be.
Diving deeper into this month's numbers on impeachment, 52% said Trump asked the Ukraine president to investigate his political rivals, while 29% said he did not. Forty-one percent said Trump held up military aid to pressure the Ukraine president while 38% said he did not.................................

(983 posts)I've been saying for a while that 2020 will be a 50/50 election because the effort to truly define Trump is non-existent while the 'professional left' are currently enganged in purity tests.
While I believe Biden to be the strongest against Trump, he has clearly lost his step and 2020 will be a big messy struggle.

(13,421 posts)I'd also like to know how the call list was generated. Wisconsin has a lot of rural conservative voters with the larger metro areas being where a big chunk of the folks likely to vote Dem live. I really am interested to know if the geographic areas were diverse. I also will say that a lot of phone polling is dependent on landlines rather than cell phones. Older (frequently conservative) voters will have landlines while younger (typically more progressive) voters tend to be people without landlines--CELL PHONE users.
I don't know the Wisconsin vote registration requirements, so it's possible they had access to cell numbers in the calling lists.
I'm not going to get all worried until I find that information.

(16,095 posts)more do use cell phone numbers now, but and this is a big one....how many people do you know who answer their phones when they don't know who is on the other end?
The people who answer polling calls will tend to skew older and more authoritarian (when a phone rings, you answer it).

(9,117 posts)We should try to win North Carolina and Arizona next year. While there are a lot of right-wingers in both states, a lot of them, particularly ex-military and those from military families, take a dim view of American presidents acting like Russian intelligence assets.
