21 November 2019
According to the Daily Beast, the indicted Rudy Giuliani associate Lev Parnas helped arrange meetings and calls in Europe for the Republican congressman Devin Nunes in 2018. But there is another reason why Nunes should recuse himself from the Impeachment inquiry.
Congressman Devin Nunes joined Trumps team as early as three days after the presidential election. On November 11, 2016, Nunes was appointed to the executive committee of Trumps transition team, along with Trumps three children, Ivanka, Eric and Donald Jr. Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner
The 16-member executive committee was set up to advise President-elect Trump on the appointments of his Cabinet members and on appointments to other top positions in the new administration, according to Nunes own statement.
But the President-elect and the Republican congressman already had a business connection .
The Alpha Omega Winery Affair
Both Nunes and Trump have investments in wineries. Nunes main investment is Alpha Omega Winery, to the value of $50,001 as of March 2018. The company was embroiled in a scandal in 2016 when a former employee alleged in a lawsuit that 25 of the Napa Valley-based winerys top investors were openly using what appeared to be cocaine and drawing straws for which sex worker to hire.

EXCERPT...
Wednesday evening, March 22: Senator John McCain (R-Arizona), in an MSNBC interview, calls for a select committee to investigate Russia, saying that no longer does the Congress have credibility to handle this alone.
Thursday morning, March 23: Nunes apologizes to his Intelligence Committee colleagues in a generic way, according to representative Jackie Speier (D-California), a fellow committee member. Nunes also tells the committee that theyll see the documents on Friday. (This does not happen.)
Thursday afternoon, March 23: A Nunes spokesperson clarifies that Nunes does not know for sure whether Trump or his associates were on the phone calls that were being surveilled or whether they were just mentioned in conversations between two or more foreign nationals.
Thursday night, March 23: Appearing on Hannity on Fox News, Nunes explains his rationale for briefing Trump on sensitive information: "I felt like I had a duty and obligation to tell him, because, as you know, hes taking a lot of heat in the news media," Nunes said. "I think to some degree there are some things he should look at to see whether, in fact, he thinks the collection was proper or not."

During Thursday's Impeachment Hearing, Rep. Eric Swalwell dropped the hammer on Nunes when he put this article into the official Congressional Record. He read the first two paragraphs of the article while Nunes stared down at some paper in his hand.
Then Swalwell pointed out that Nunes has been accusing Chairman Adam Schiff of being a "fact witness", aka someone who should testify because they have material or knowledge that could benefit the proceedings. In actuality, Swalwell pointed out, Nunes may have been projecting all along.
Boom.

(14,863 posts)NRA brass hoped to profit from a 2015 trip to Moscow, report states, raising questions about the organizations non-profit status
Tim Dickinson
Rolling Stone, Sept. 27, 2019
A long-awaited Senate report into the connections between the National Rifle Association and Russia describes the NRA as a foreign asset and underscores the NRAs connections to, and activities in, Russia could jeopardize the organizations nonprofit status.
The investigation, conducted by ranking member Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and the minority staff of the Senate Finance Committee, confirms that the NRA, its officers, board members, and donors engaged in a years-long effort to facilitate the U.S.-based activities of Maria Butina and Alexander Torshin, the report states.
SNIP...
The Senate report validates the DOJs conclusion that the activity of those Russian nationals amounted to an illegal conspiracy to gain access to American organizations through the NRA. But it also makes clear that the effort was reciprocal, specifically that the NRA was engaged in a years-long effort to facilitate Butina and Torshins domestic activity.
The report zeroes in on the infamous December 2015 trip by NRA officials to Moscow, and concludes this trip was official NRA business the gun groups denials notwithstanding. The report states many of the American participants sought to advance personal economic interests on the visit sponsored by the non-profit.
The minority staff investigation confirms confirms Butina and Torshin utilized a network of Russian oligarchs and high-ranking Kremlin officials to bring the NRA to Moscow with promises of lucrative business opportunities with Russian entities, the report states. The trip included meetings with weapons manufacturers that produce weaponry for the Russian military and numerous entities and individuals under United States sanction or representatives and subsidiaries of entities under sanction, it adds.

When Nunes traveled to Europe in 2018, Giulianiwho is Trumps personal attorneywas working to oust Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch from her post in Kyiv.
