Peggy Noonan (speech writer for President Reagan) statement on impeachment

@keithboykin
"As to impeachment itself, the case has been so clearly made you wonder what exactly the Senate will be left doing. How will they hold a lengthy trial with a case this clear?"

- Peggy Noonan, speechwriter for President Reagan

We're being forced to agree with Peggy Noonan. That being said, I hope she is the crack in the dam, and that it's about to blow.

They are few and far between these days, but there are some left. I don't hold it against anyone who genuinely has different beliefs and supports different policies than we democrats do, as long as they are honest people. Healthy debate on different viewpoints help make us a stronger nation.
Unfortunately most of today's republicans have chosen to blindly follow a corrupt leader and they will pay the price.

It will be really ugly.

I just hope our heroic defenders of democracy find a way to neuter them...

Now they are working on us, the progressives and the moderates. Once they destroy both parties, democracy is toast.

If the government has already been subverted by evil forces, can we rely on the still remaining good ones to help?

But Noonan, who also wrote Republican George H.W. Bush's 1988 Republican nomination acceptance speech, did not seem to advocate for impeaching Trump.

"A full-blown trial on charges most everyone will believe are true, and with an election in less than a year, will seem absurd to all but diehards and do the country no good," Noonan wrote. "So the reasonable guess is Republican senators will call to let the people decide. In a divided country this is the right call."

Both ways, up and down, with the takedown of a uniformed officer in the middle. Maybe it’ll have a helpful effect on moderate republicans? Really am not sure, but hey, that’s noonan.
