(4,392 posts)to include the uniformed National Guard forces in each state (who may be commanded to enter a fray or disaster) by governors or acquired and commanded by the Federal Government) and armed and equipped with many skills.
And the uniformed Coast Guard under Dept Homeland Security and/or Navy; depending on combatant mission
And the newly created to-be-uniformed (can't wait for the fashionistas to decide what their official sidearm will be) Space Force under the Air Force.
Other uniformed but non-combatant military:
United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps (detain and jab?)
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Commissioned Officer Corps
Other ceremonial units of ROTC, state historical militias,
Of course, there's the not-so-well maintained militia/lobbyist/loyalists as well. I.C.E.; Border Patrol, TSA, Forest Rangers, Secret Service, DEA, ATF...Entities like the NRA members whose arguments against gun control include the misapplication of force from all of the above...it's really more worrisome every single day that they may actually have a point while reported domestic gun violence is epidemic as depicted by MSM as civilian domestic and foreign mafia members, ex-lovers, neighborhood gangs, bikers, drug lords, pimps, other secret "enterpreneurs" of justice a.k.a assasins, live what you game social groups, cosplay members, hunters and poachers...and the merely mentally maladjusted...who does that leave???

Huge trove of information in the OP link below, although many of the links no longer work. A fascinating read.

(4,981 posts)Of last week. As specifically relating to your OP, how the subservience to protecting tRump during those hearings against all else we've been through seems like a constant lurch towards dictatorial rule. It's hard to try to look directly at where we're at in the mess of it all. I simply don't know what to say about it with any certainty.
I think you raised some tough questions, and thank goodness, for Backseat Driver's response which teases apart the scope of the matter of the 'military' aligning behind the tRump, and helps me feel a bit more at ease (in that I get a sense of it being like herding cats).
(On further edit: I previously added in the herding cats comment. While cute, the phrase is artful enough and is truly my take on it. Needed to add this edit explanation to convey that I'm being sincere.)

(1,388 posts)"If Trump & his loyalist hadnt projected their own deeds onto Democrats so often, " This is a great point in the post. I have found, in my life, lyres always think everyone is lying to them. Cheaters are the first to feel cheated. The idea that Obama instigated a military coupe. Just nuts. But when you look at what has just transpired. And then Rick Perry makes the statement that Trump is sent from God. What if the newest heads of the military believe this?

(4,981 posts)Delegation of republicans to Moscow, I overlooked that drop in timelines, as I guess, my brain grabbed the significance of the departure of the first of the four, the Marines commandant, on July 11 this year because I associated it with Sondland's testimony about his July 10 exchanges as a Ukrainian delegation paid a visit to the WH.
https://www.npr.org/2019/11/20/778657263/watch-live-sondland-key-impeachment-witness-headlines-wednesday-hearing
Is there a connection between the Ukraine scandal and changes to military leadership? Maybe and maybe not. Is the timing alone against the backdrop of the layers of ratf*ckery that got to me in considering whether republicans and this administration are sliding towards authoritarian ends either by design or bumbling mistakes.
Nonetheless, its good you pointed that out. And probably be good for the OP to be edited to reflect this.
On edit: Aha, its already been updated! Good deal!
