CNN contributor and The Nation correspondent Joan Walsh called President Donald Trump’s interaction with Conan the dog, who was injured during the October military raid on ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, “terrifying” on Monday.

“This is terrifying. Trump and Melania exude coldness to Conan the hero dog,” claimed Walsh in a series of Twitter posts. “Melania, whose coat is slightly macabre (to me, but others may find it lovely), moves away from Conan multiple times.”

They won't even look at him. Pence, on the other hand, pets him and skritches his ears throughout most of the video. I'll give him credit for that, even if not for much of anything else (Trump was annoyed with the Pences for bringing their pets to D.C. He said it made them look "low class." If anybody knows low class, it's Trump.)

I never saw Melania moving away multiple times. She looked at the dog and smiled. The overcoat (?) was not macabre, it was more like a housecoat a 1920s silent movie star would wear between takes. IQ45 himself never got close to the dog or touch it (no surprise there), but nobody looked terrified or terrifying. Apparently Pence likes dogs and that one liked him. <*shrug*>

It was a mediocre photo-op, nothing more. I really don't get what Walsh is writing about here.

Some people are genuinely afraid of dogs, so weird coat aside, I'll give Melania a pass on that one. She really does look nervous and could have a life long fear of dogs.

Trump kept talking about how mean and fierce Conan is, while Pence is back there petting the dog. Even Pence has some redeeming qualities, he appears to be a real animal lover and Conan was enjoying the attention. I wonder if Trump will give him hell for that later.

I agree. That was absolutely creepy. He describes that good girl like she’s a vicious killing machine, and would like nothing more than to kill journalists for him.
