My son and his home are suddenly in an explosive fire zone in Santa Barbara. I emailed him and texted him -- don't know if we'll hear back, but he is definitely in the evacuation zone.
My #1 brother is extremely ill in Oregon, and #2 brother (SoCal) has been keeping me and our sis (NY) apprised. The good news, I guess, is we have not heard anything today. On Sunday we thought we might be trying to get flights over Thanksgiving.
I was maintaining until I turned on the news and saw the fire.
So I'm asking. If you believe in prayer or just a good thought, my family could use some tonight.

Power is out in much of the area which may be why you're having trouble reaching anyone.
You can check Twitter.com for the #CaveFire hashtag to get the latest tweets. The Los Angeles Times has a story up.
So far no homes have been confirmed burned but that could change.
The fire is now close to parts of downtown Santa Barbara. I used to live there; so sad to see such a beautiful city threatened.
I will say a prayer and hope it helps, too.

(90,562 posts)It started last Thursday, with news about my brother who lives in Oregon. He's 71, a lifetime heavy smoker and drinker with COPD, edema, and apparently a bleeding ulcer. He lives alone.
Our youngest brother wrote to us 2 sisters: Just wanted to let you know that Joe has been in and out of the ICU twice in a week, he has had to call an ambulance to pick him up and was apparently barely able to do so both times. He has an ulcer that starts bleeding and he doesn't know it, so he gets weak and has trouble breathing and moving about so he calls an ambulance.
Apparently the second time he ended up at the ER they decided to keep him under medical supervision until some kind of stability could be achieved. That was when they contacted family, i.e. youngest brother. It really sounded like Joe was dying, and we started making preliminary plans to fly in from upstate NY, Ventura CA, and San Clemente CA, so we could say goodbye if the medical reports continued to be that bad.
But apparently Joe has stabilized for now. He's not healthy, that's no longer in the cards, but he's not actually dying either, so that is good news for now.
And it is good that the rest of us don't have to fly this weekend, because what with the holiday and the weather systems in play across the continent it would have been awful. I suspect we 3 will try to put together a visit before the end of the year, or shortly after the New Year.
I spent several days in tears, though, thinking of what a brilliant raconteur he always was, and the charm he evidently always had for the ladies. I know two women who were girlfriends when he was probably 19 - 21, who have a very soft spot for him to this day, and have just found out that his landlady has actually been his guardian angel for several years, managing his SS check and hiring him for paid maintenance work from time to time.
So good. Or, as good as it gets.
The fire sounds stabilized, too. It's only grown a couple hundred acres since last night, to 4300 acres, containment at 10%. No homes have been destroyed that we know of. Mutual aid systems throughout SoCal have thrown hundreds of personnel, dozens of fire trucks (I think they get staged in the neighborhoods), and more water-dropping aircraft than I knew were in the region at this fire. We are all counting on the rain tonight.
Our son is safe and has a place to stay with his dog. His house that he has worked so hard to have is safe. He is okay.. I am so relieved.
And that's all there is for now. Thank you all. Thank you all so much for helping me through this.
