At youth opioid awareness event in Baltimore for a speech to attendees mostly of high school and middle school age, @FLOTUS was loudly booed upon introduction. Talking continued throughout her five minute remarks.

I would have found a way to reward them (in a subtle way of course, as to not offend anyone/parent who would say it was disrespectful). That is the sort of thing I did in my classroom, like not even telling the kids that Bush was the POTUS when we learned and celebrated Presidents' Day. When Clinton and Obama were in office my kids definitely knew who they were and respected them. It was easy with first graders, but still do-able with 6th graders.

I learned a lot as a teacher. One thing was that there were likely no turkeys at the first couple of Thanksgivings. They had a surplus of lobsters and seafood (I prefer that myself). You have a Happy T-Day too!

(they voted anonymously on blank paper, their own issues, and they did the tallying, etc.) It was a reading, writing, math and civics lesson all in one. I also made the classroom FAIR. Kids, and I, really value "fairness" and I drilled that into everything in my classroom since I was in control of my classroom. I wish I could do it with the country and world...very frustrating! I hope they remember these things as they get older.
