Just fired his Secretary of Navy as easy as a Sunday stroll.
Just imposed himself into the Uniform Code of Military Justice just because he could.
Just disrupted the military order and cohesiveness by promoting the cause of a certain Navy Seal.
After all, he is the Commander in Chief. He has the authority.
There is no limit to his willingness and desire to abuse his power.
It is very dangerous when someone seeks to divide in such a way.
The state motto of Kentucky could never be more true: United We Stand - Divided We Fall

And so far, that is one guy. Everyone else toes Trump's line and obeys his orders.

That's what he does. And he does it well.

(2,221 posts)The White house, Senate, The Courts, Law Enforcement is filled with Trump's goons and soon the Armed Forces will be filled with them too. No one like General James Mattis or Rear Admiral William C. Greene will be around to oppose Trumps orders. If shit hits the fan and Trump starts a real Civil War people still think the Police and Army will still be on our side? A good chunk will, but if majority of those forces are comprised of Trump supporters they won't be able to do much to help us. We really need to win 2020 or we will be looking at a very bad future for Democrats.

(13,400 posts)get into any of the patriotic hooha. I appreciate the guys that are in there to do the right thing, but I'm afraid that may not be as many as I'd like. I'm more and more worried about to what extent many are being radicalized by fundamentalists and white supremacists. Now would be a good time for some to start speaking out, and to hear support for the republicans dropping among them.

(14,011 posts)This is way better than he planned. He's probably starting to get those old Western Europe invasion plans out of the archives for the day Trump really pulls us out of NATO.

(62,346 posts)Real leaders who may have stood up to him are gone and my guess is that like all Trump appointees, the replacements are much more compliant.
so their choice is to stand back and let it happen.
I so hope when the Dem wins next year one of their top priorities will be to replace the Trump appointees with real leaders who will do what is right.

(184 posts)IRL Donnie is losing the respect of the military VERY quickly. The number of way he has screwed over active duty, retired and disabled vets is pissing them off. I am married to a disabled retired vet; we spend a lot of time at military facilities and the VA we hear it all the time. He thinks they love him and some do but his cuts to housing, healthcare are angering them/us. The VA is worse because older vets are pissed about his power grab as well as how quality of care is sliding. We were told that even getting new prosthetic limbs and having them served are in the crosshairs of cuts to VA spending so hurry up and get his fixed asap.
While there is a tendency to follow orders, 'his military' is far from automatons.

It's as if he is cultivating his own personal fighting force answerable only to him.

(36,369 posts)Trump did the pardons but the world sees that America condones war crimes.
Trump will eventually be gone but the pardons remain.
Whenever America mentions war crimes, Trump has given them a ready response.

This is true and is the most compelling reason for impeachment and removal from office. He sees no reason to change. If he learned a lesson from the outcry over all his abuses of power, it would be reasonable to let an election decide the matter. He will not learn. He will continue to abuse the power of the office and will escalate if not constrained.

(56,897 posts)World War II propaganda poster from the United States.
"United we stand, divided we fall" is a phrase used in many different kinds of mottos, most often to inspire unity and collaboration. Its core concept lies in the collectivist notion that if individual members of a certain group with binding ideals such as a union, coalition, confederation or alliance work on their own instead of as a team, they are each doomed to fail and will all be defeated. The phrase is also often referred to with only the words "United we stand".
Historical origin
United States propaganda poster from World War II.
The Seal of Kentucky, featuring the motto.
The phrase has been attributed to the ancient Greek storyteller Aesop, both directly in his fable "The Four Oxen and the Lion" and indirectly in "The Bundle of Sticks".
Biblical references
A similar phrase also appears in the biblical New Testament translated into English from the historic Greek in Mark 3:25 as "And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand". Similar verses of the New Testament include Matthew 12:25 ( "And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand" ) and Luke 11:17 ( "But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth." ).
The 1911 Encyclopaedia Britannica quotes Robert Grosseteste (d. 1253) saying "It is written that united we stand and divided we fall."
