MSNBC guest: No money changed hands so no bribery, Hunter Biden blah blah blah

I forget the name of this CPAC guest, but it seems like the defense has now shifted to "this was ATTEMPTED bribery, so no big deal" and of course throwing in Hunter Biden to muddy the waters.

I'll try to get the guest's name, give me a few minutes.

eta: Guest was Matt Slapp.

Always trying to talk over other guests, always obnoxious. Look back at the pictures of the Brooks Bros mob invading the Florida recount. He’s front and center. Once a pig, always a pig trying to intimidate.

Then Bush stole Florida...ignored the warnings Bin Laden determined to strike in the US*...and got us into wars without end.

It’s how fascists operate.

There is no argument from the other side, only deflections consisting of disjointed partisan potshots and a fantasy-level denial of the incontrovertible. This is not newsworthy. It is politics sans facts. For the network to allow it to be disseminated at a time when we should be carefully policing our airwaves for propaganda is an affront to the American people. The press seems to be aiding and abetting the systematic disassembly of our government and providing a mouthpiece for Putin and those with malicious intentions. I guess they're cool with trashing the first amendment and replacing it with TASS and Pravda...and Facebook.

I mean, if you attempt to murder somebody but somebody stops you, that obviously doesn't mean that you're off the hook. Certainly, this is not what Republicans are arguing, is it?

19. Why isn't anyone calling this by its correct name?? "SOLICITATION of a bribe"
Wed Nov 27, 2019, 11:53 AM
Nov 2019

It is much easier for people to intuitively understand that "solicitation of a bribe" is a crime, is morally objectionable, and is harmful to the public, rather than "attempted bribery", which (incorrectly) sounds like a mere attempt at a crime.

"Solicitation of a bribe" is and sounds like a crime. It is a crime regardless of whether the thing of value was ever received. People understand this.

https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/bribery#
"Bribery refers to the offering, giving, soliciting, or receiving of any item of value as a means of influencing the actions of an individual holding a public or legal duty. [...] Solicitation of a bribe also constitutes a crime and is completed regardless of whether the solicitation results in the receipt of a valuable gift."

Here, Trump was soliciting a bribe by asking Zelensky to give him something of persona value (i.e. announcement of Biden investigations on CNN) in exchange for carrying out the duties of his office (i.e. sending the earmarked military aid to Ukraine). There is plenty of evidence of all of the above. Case closed.
