A liberal watchdog said it has unearthed a July interview in a Ukrainian publication in which indicted Boca Raton businessman Lev Parnas said he hoped to influence Attorney General William Barr’s investigation into the origins of the Russia investigation.
There is no indication that Parnas has met with Barr or anyone associated with the Department of Justice probe. Neither is there any proof Parnas’ work has been adopted or used by the team Barr has charged with probing investigations into Russian election interference in U.S. elections.
In May, Barr assigned Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham to probe the factors that led to the start of the investigation into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election. In particular, Barr tasked Durham with looking into the intelligence gathering aimed at President Trump’s campaign in 2016. Barr, to the chagrin of the U.S. intelligence community, has termed their surveillance as “spying.”
On Saturday, Media Matters for America said it had found a story written in Russian in a Ukrainian publication called New-Times in which Parnas spoke candidly about his and and partner Igor Fruman’s “activities” to support Rudy Giuliani.
