What fresh hell is this? A Fox News made up story now has Donny Dumb Ass pushing this bullshit at one
of his Bund Rallies. Do people really believe this shit? And what DUer started the war on Thanksgiving?

President Donald Trump warned that an unnamed force wants Thanksgiving to be called something other than Thanksgiving at a rally Tuesday night, a belief that is likely derived from Fox News segments declaring a war on the holiday.

Some people want to change the name Thanksgiving, Trump said at the beginning of his rally in Sunrise, Florida. They dont want to use the term Thanksgiving. And that was true also with Christmas. But now everybody is using Christmas again. Remember I said that?
People have different ideas why it shouldnt be called Thanksgiving, Trump continued. But everybody in this room I know loves the name Thanksgiving and were not changing it.

This month, an article from HuffPost offered advice on how to have an environmentally friendly Thanksgiving dinner. That story sparked mass coverage at Fox News: it was covered on Fox & Friends, Fox & Friends First, Tucker Carlson Tonight, The Five, Fox News @ Night. It gave us this incredible graphic, spawning the War on Thanksgiving:

(24,412 posts)They're looking for the next distraction. I'd like to think that most people don't actually care about it one way or another, just like I've never actually met anybody IRL who genuinely believes that there's a "War on Christmas", although some of my podcast friends have taken to mocking the idea in a variety of hilarious sketches

(182,799 posts)Back in the day my friends and I (usually late in the night) would often take something and starting riffing it out and end up with a joke that was 10 steps from the origin. If someone referenced it later wed all laugh and anyone who wasnt there at the genesis of it would have NO IDEA what we were talking about.
This reminds me of that...or the first 15 minutes of Hannitys radio show which is truly bizarre.

(29,199 posts)last night... there was a completely made up story circulated on right wing web sites during the Obama era that Obama wanted to change the name to "Immigrant's Day" or "Celebrate Immigrants Day". There was never an effort to actually do this... it was completely made up.
Donny do-do and Faux are trying to resurrect this bullshit story.

(3,208 posts)Let's just pretend for a minute that everyone here on DU really did say there is no Thanksgiving or call it another name. Is that going to pollute the air we breathe and the water we drink? Is this why people are working hard at full time jobs and still having a hard time making the bills? Is that why the health care system in this country is such a mess? Is that what makes education so expensive that people have to go into deep debt?
This is such a stupid cheap distraction and it works so well for some people that they throw all logic and reason out of the window, refuse to see what is right in front of their face and vote for people who are destroying this country and the planet.
Perhaps to my list of things I am thankful for this year is the fact that I have never supported Republicans or any of their policies and I am going to spend the day with my family who also have love and care for their fellow beings.
Happy Turkey Day y'all!

(25,855 posts)that say Thanksgiving is such a terrible thing to celebrate because it glorifies the conquering and murdering of the people who were here when Europeans arrived. Okay, so the story of the First Thanksgiving has been largely mythologized, but the reality is many cultures have had either a harvest festival (which is what this really is) or a time set aside to be grateful and give thanks for something or another.
Earlier today I saw one that said we ought to celebrate the day without killing anything living, and had a photo of a vegetarian meal. It took a lot of self control not to point out that the plants were once alive also.

(36,745 posts)90 pct of Native Americans were killed by diseases brought by Euros.
So many of them died that indigenous slave labor was difficult to find, so came another piece of sordid Euro history...the African slave trade.
Your nephew is spot on correct.
