It is not the "Deep State," you moron. It is the permanent state, the stable state, the Constitutional state. It is the constant state that is the fundamental structure of our government.
You, however, are the "Shallow State." You are the temporary state, the aberrant state, the noxious state. You will soon be gone, while the basic structure of our government persists in your absence. You are an evanescent figure, a mortal individual, and will soon be forgotten as anything but a faulty judgement made by our population in 2016.
While you might vaunt yourself as a special sort of President, in truth you are, and will be, nothing more than an asterisk in history. We will remember you, but not favorably. You have failed in living up to the responsibility bestowed on you. Failed miserably.
You should be ashamed of yourself.

(8,804 posts)How about this, Trump 2016 voters......Talk up trump for 2020 election, hell, even wear your maga hat to and from the polls, but for the sake of us, you and the nation, vote for the Democrat. You don't have to even admit you were wrong for goodness sake.....
We won't even mind if after the election, and the Dem is elected by a landslide, you say to everyone out loud that you can't figure it out, you and all of your associates voted for Trump etc etc etc

(146,284 posts)Are we ready to turn this around? I'm not sure. Will we go out and bring voters to the polls to do that? I don't know.
I keep hoping.

(3,010 posts)What I'm not sure of is how effective the election tampering will be. Because of the electoral college, they may only have to target a few blue counties in a few red states to steal it again. Democrats consistently have more votes.
Brace yourself for some ugly election interference.

(3,148 posts)As President Obama correctly noted.
If you're gay, and the nominee's straight - VOTE ANYWAY
If you're female and the nominee's male - VOTE ANYWAY
If you're a POC and the candidate is not only white but not perceived as especially sensitive to racial issues- VOTE ANYWAY
If you consider issue 'X' overwhelmingly important, but our nominee has issue 'Y' front and center - VOTE ANYWAY.
I think what most matters is getting out ALL of our vote, yes even if someone is highly progressive and the nominee is Joe, or a person of color and the nominee is Pete, or suspicious of tech bros and the nominee is Yang or doesn't believe that single-payer is the way and the nominee is Warren.
We have to turn out ALL of us, regardless of what we think of the nominee; goodness knows there are acouple I'd be holding my nose for, but hold my nose I will, and anyone who wouldn't DESERVES everything Trump will do to them (even if we don't).

(4,869 posts)I used to consult in the oil and gas industry. The deep knowledge of how to run chemical plants and refineries safely is called institutional memory.
Some of the oldest refineries along the gulf coast were built more than a century ago. They have been upgraded and modernized along the way, but they're still a patchwork of old and new in many cases. It's the old timers who know where the duct tape and bailing wire are holding it together.
The goal of training in these plants is to make sure that new generations of workers can seamlessly take over when the old timers retire or die. The official processes and procedures are all documented. But some things just cannot be documented well - the sounds, smells, and subtle indicators that something is wrong, and where the improvised patches are. You have to pair the young folks with the oldtimers on the job for a long time to learn that.
I'm sure it's the same in many industries - aerospace, medicine, nuclear reactors and government.
In other words, the deep knowledge/deep state is what keeps the planes flying, the refineries, nuclear reactors and power plants from blowing up vast parts of the U.S. It's what enables our government to keep us safe and prosperous.
No wonder our enemies want to undermine the "deep state"!

I agree with everything else you said. Although his evil and his hostility to democracy are profound, they (and he) are ephemeral. I would add, however, that those who follow him will seek to perpetuate what he has been, and we must be eternally vigilant against them.
