President Trump involved himself in the case almost from the start. Before the trial began, in March, I received two calls from the president asking me to lift Gallaghers confinement in a Navy brig; I pushed back twice, because the presiding judge, acting on information about the accuseds conduct, had decided that confinement was important. Eventually, the president ordered me to have him transferred to the equivalent of an enlisted barracks. I came to believe that Trumps interest in the case stemmed partly from the way the defendants lawyers and others had worked to keep it front and center in the media.
After the verdict was delivered, the Navys normal process wasnt finished. Gallagher had voluntarily submitted his request to retire. In his case, there were three questions: Would he be permitted to retire at the rank of chief, which is also known as an E-7? (The jury had said he should be busted to an E-6, a demotion.) The second was: Should he be allowed to leave the service with an honorable or general under honorable discharge? And a third: Should he be able to keep his Trident pin, the medal all SEALs wear and treasure as members of an elite force?
On Nov. 14, partly because the president had already contacted me twice, I sent him a note asking him not to get involved in these questions. The next day, White House Counsel Pat Cipollone called me and said the president would remain involved. Shortly thereafter, I received a second call from Cipollone who said the president would order me to restore Gallagher to the rank of chief.

Given my desire to resolve a festering issue, I tried to find a way that would prevent the president from further involvement while trying all avenues to get Gallaghers file in front of a peer-review board. Why? The Naval Special Warfare community owns the Trident pin, not the secretary of the Navy, not the defense secretary, not even the president. If the review board concluded that Gallagher deserved to keep it, so be it.

(51,582 posts)It proves that you can sell any BS to him as long as it is on Fux. This is very dangerous for the country. The "media" is specifically FUX Ruse and not legitimate media. Talk about fake news, they invented the term. Americans eat it up since they are dumber than fucking dirt just like their dear leader.

(19,192 posts)They have hosts who disguise themselves as journalists, but they're nothing more than TV personalities who present their opinions as news. It's a shame FUX viewers don't realize the difference, but if they did, they wouldn't be FUX viewers.

(51,582 posts)Fuckubee Sanders (who I believe appears on Fux but since I don't watch it I have never seen her). She said that News programs are no longer news but just people spewing their opinions from panels. Seems hypocritical of her, doesn't it. She is the queen of propaganda and BS lies.

(19,192 posts)anything else but FUX Noise, or listened to anything but reich-wing radio, because there is actual news to be found out there. No one will ever find it on the 24/7 reich-wing propaganda outlets though. I detest then entire Huckleberry family. They're so holy and patriotic.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, BigmanPigman!

(18,623 posts)Though he's not an active service member, it's rare that someone on the military side would speak out. He must be steaming.
Remember, since Trump appointed him he must be a friend or donor, or at least he used to be. Another book deal?
Trump has made so many enemies in his own cabinet, you'd think their sheer numbers would be moving the approval polls.

(16,925 posts)that if it was "a book deal" that he's jumped the gun. Do like Yosemite Sam, er, John Bolton has done: drag it out, keep your name out there, let you lawyer/agent find a book deal, then do the TV circuit - GO FOR THE BUCKS!!!!!
Looks like another true American patriot to me.........
