"I don't understand why you're walking around this neighborhood w/ a bunch a packages" to black UPS

The woman has not immediately been identified, but said she lives in the area where the Peters, a seasonal worker, was delivering several postal items.

'I'm going to need someone's information to check up on you, because I don't understand why you're walking around this neighborhood with a bunch a packages,' the woman says at the beginning of the video.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7734061/White-woman-calls-police-black-UPS-man-delivering-packages-nervous.html

When Peters expresses that the woman is bothering him, she explains that the man's presence made her 'nervous.'

'I'm not bothering you,' she says. 'I want to complain to UPS that you look very suspicious and making me nervous.'

She then goes on to explain her apprehension, citing past break-ins that occurred in the area.

Peters then proceeds to turn the camera around and show what appears to be a company issued jacket with the official emblem attached.

Later, Peters also shows his work dolly carrying a pile of packages meant to be delivered.

At one point the woman retreats to her home, but reappears to allegedly take pictures of the man and record him.

In a separate clip, the woman says she has called the police as a second UPS worker comes into frame and begins speaking to the woman.

It is unclear what occurs after the video ends.

Since is initial posting, the video has been shared on Twitter and has quickly gone viral.

Seriously, this response reminds me of the old adage:

If they’re African-American, they’re thugs.
If they’re Muslim, they’re terrorists.
If they’re Latinx, they’re “illegals.”
If they’re white…they “must be mentally-ill.”

The adage is used to explain the discriminatory assumption that is unfortunately often applied to people who commit violent offences: the assumption that a black, Hispanic, or Muslim perpetrator committed the offence because of some personal choice (or identity group flaw) for which he should be held accountable, while not considering the possibility of mental illness, - but that a white person is readily offered that possibility and excuse of mental illness. That is true and a very fair criticism. I agree with it entirely.

The reason the adage is true is because it is equally possible to accuse or excuse a black, Hispanic, Muslim, or white person for a violent offence (Eg. a shooting spree, domestic violence). Violent offenders come in all colors and religions.

That’s also why it doesn’t apply when the offence is an accusation of racism. No black, Hispanic, or Muslim person could be similarly accused.

When the supposed racism manifests as “a completely unwarranted suspicion”, it’s important to remember that paranoia is a central feature of several mental health disorders. The more unwarranted the suspicion and the more bizarre the behavior, the more likely it is that it’s caused by a mental health issue.

or she might be paranoid schizophrenic, or drunk, or all of the above, or none of the above. What is clear from her gait and speech is that she is mentally incapacitated in some way.

If I understand you correctly, your problem with my comment is that I haven’t piled on enough hate. That I haven’t joined in the chorus of calumny. That I have dared to point out that the person looks unwell.

I won’t be bullied into being a hater.

It’s what the Russian bots would want and I don’t intend to add to their success.

I also object as matter of principle. Hate is never the antidote to hate. It begets more hate, it corrodes the soul of the hater, it blinds, and it creates more problems than it solves.

On all sides - we need to try to reign in our worst instincts, and model values and behaviours that promote the public good.

That America has a never ending supply of racist white ladies, who believe that they’re entitled to use the police to oppress any Black person within their presence.

It’s not just the racist aspect of it, it’s the sheer audacity of their willingness to police Black bodies personally, under the rubric being “afraid” of those same Black bodies, merely because they’re inability to cope with their own episode of race based stress.

These white people see a Black body in an area where they’ve designated it in their own minds as a “whites only space,” they then become uncomfortable with that fact and then go on to conflate their own discomfort around Black people with some “threat” to their own safety.

It’s ridiculous to most people of course, but to whites who have been conditioned to have anti-Black bias for their entire lives, it makes perfect sense.

Thank goodness for cell phones videos and YouTube, because it’s not out of the realm of possibility for these racially stressed and entitled white women cry “rape” or whatever, whenever Black people are doing nothing more than going about their own business.

In the past, that’s how a Black man could get lynched.

They got another call a while later from this women again complaining that they were still there. He told her that the cops talked to them and they were not breaking any laws. She said I don't care they shouldn't be here they should be picked up. He tried to convince her this is a free country and cops just can't arrest people for walking down the wrong street. She went off yellling that's what is wrong with this country the blacks can get away with anything and the cops are afraid to touch them.

Its completely outrageous. Not only racist. Potentially putting the lives of the young men in danger. Its a waste tax payers dollars. The time it takes to send the police officers to check on nonsense, that she knows is nonsense, they could be doing more constructive things for the public. She could be diverting them from investigating real criminals.
I do not understand why more is not being done about these people that do this. Until we start to impose stiff fines and punishment they are going to continue to use the police as their personal body guards against people they think do not belong in "their spaces".
