And continued to over-use. Every little activity was supposed to be focused on supporting "the warfighters", instead of the mission or service members, as was referenced in earlier usage. The military has had many roles, especially humanitarian roles, but Mercenaries don't make money being humanitarians. So Warfighter became the "official" term in reference to troops or service members.
The thinking of modern policy makers seems to be that the military no longer needs to concern itself with service anymore, they're just supposed to be ready for fighting and war. No honor, espre de corps, or thinking necessary any more. The War Pigs want infantilized disposable stereotypes to be distractions in the quest for more free taxpayer money.

Bloomberg TicToc (@TicToc) Tweeted:
"The Taliban wants to make a deal... and they only want to make a deal because you're doing a great job."

Trump, during a surprise Thanksgiving visit to the troops in Afghanistan, says peace talks with the Taliban have resumed, and thanked the troops for their efforts https://t.co/lVH3Rz8vOd
