(9,313 posts)... consequences of DT's contempt for them are legitimate. The belief they must figure out ways to endear themselves to DT is akin to a battered spouse's belief the only way to protect themselves is to placate their abuser.
It says volumes about DT's abuse of the disparity in power between the US and Ukraine and the power of his slightest threat to strike fear in the heart of any struggling nation that relies on the goodwill of DT.
It is no longer "how can we raise our plight and enlist the goodwill of the American people." It is "how can we endear ourselves to DT?"
Other nations know they can no longer look to the "Goodwill of the American People" because DT has proven, over, and over, how determined he is when it comes to unlawfully and immorally thwarting and overriding "our will" (as expressed in Congressional action) if it conflicts with his own destructive agenda.
Perhaps there are still some checks on his abuses of power, but from the perspective of other nations, we are no longer a democracy. "The people" have clearly been cut out of the loop. Americans may not "get it" but other countries do. They know how dangerous it is to get on DT's "bad side."
Given our complete inability to protect the integrity of our elections and ensure every voter can easily (no lines, no barriers) cast a vote that is accurately counted, the fear of DT's continued rule is also valid.
