9. It's useless with those people

Most of today's Republicans - and for the last 25+ years, really - vote that way because of racial hatred.

In my younger, more effervescent days, I used to show GOP acquaintances these very charts - and they either gave me glazed (almost bovine) looks, or started off with something along the lines of: "the way Democrats give black and hispanics welfare, we'll go bankrupt in 10 years!"

That's what it's all about for them. Most of them, anyway.

10. Rich Republicans. Two different segments to me

The Republican Party realized that they can not exist without appeasing the base bigots. They looked back at the previous 80 years, which by coincidence had 40 years of Democratic rule and 40 years of Republican rule. By every single metric, the economy did better under the Democratic presidency. From household income, to per capita GNP, Dow Jones, recessions and the great depression, etc. There is no doubt that the American economy does better with a Democrat as president.
