Apple CEO Tim Cook said hes ready to fight until my toes point up to defend the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program that is currently allowing hundreds of his employeesand 700,000 young people nationallyto work legally and live from from the fear of deportation. I am focused on DACA, he told ABC News. We have 450 folks in Apple, employed at Apple, who are employed on DACA. I want those folks protected. Not just the 450 but the broader DACA people in America."
Cooks remarks followed an unprecedented decision by Apple to file a legal brief in support of the program at the Supreme Court, which earlier this month heard oral arguments around the Trump administrations unlawful and cruel decision to end the program in 2017. "Our interest in this case is simple, Apple executives, including Cook, said in the filing. We are distressed at the prospect of ripping our DACA colleagues from the fabric of our company.
One Apple employee named in the brief, D.O., described how he taught himself to code as a way to help support his mom. I knew I needed to do everything I could, work as hard as I could, to get a job that would allow her to stop working in the fields, he said in the filing. Today, hes a valued member at Apple and has become a mentor to others. These people are the core of what an American is, Cook continued.

(4,919 posts)Disclaimer: I've been an Apple Fan Boy since 1985.
Tim Cook is very different than Steve Jobs... Nevertheless, a great CEO yet a very decent, generous human being. I admire him for being a public gay role model and having such a gentle demeanor and way with words.

(587 posts)But he's been going easy on Trump. Perhaps he's pretending to be a friend of Trump for business reasons.
Here's an interesting recent article about this from Forbes.

From the article:
Apple CEO Tim Cook has received some criticism recently about his reticence in the face of a slew of erroneous self-serving statements by President Donald Trump as they toured an Austin, Texas manufacturing plant which will be assembling Apples upcoming Mac Pro. Trump claimed that he was there to open the plant (a falsehood, the plant opened in 2013), as Cook stood by quietly, not correcting or refuting Trumps self-serving statements.
...
For all of Trumps bluster and tariff talk, his actions have been selective, and his results have been mixed. Cook has diligently forged a special relationship with Trump that has largely allowed Apple to avoid the brunt of the tariffs, thus buoying Apples significant investment in China and calming the fears of investors who might otherwise worry about Apples future.

(23,340 posts)Too bad he caved to Russia's pressure to show the Crimean Peninsula as part of Russia.
But other than that, sure, he's there for the underdogs.

(25,183 posts)is his hissy fit over unlocking the Apple phone that the San Bernadino terrorists had cast away after their shooting spree. Like dead terrorists have rights or something.
The FBI spent well over a million dollars of taxpayer money to unlock the phone, and then Tim Cook wanted the tool used to be given to Apple. I detested Apple and its business model for years, and now I fully despise them and everything they stand for.
