Worth a good read.
Did you know that OMB officially withheld Ukraine's military aid just hours after Trump's "do us a favor call?"
Now you do.

(13,360 posts)Copied and shared across social media... THIS is the best graphic and puts it in full perspective.
IN ONE DAY, the President* unilaterally undid our foreign policy with an ally, across multiple departments, and put that country in danger...all for his OWN benefit. period.
If Trumpers could read, this would be the ONE thing to show them. There is NO arguing with it. ...and look, nowhere in there did anyone use the words Quid Pro Quo so their little heads won't explode.
I just don't understand how anyone can deny this OBVIOUS ABUSE OF POWER
(let alone the rest of the grifting and numerous other damaging things he has done...)

(7,403 posts)One of the Trump talking points is that Zelinsky wasn't aware the aid was being held up at the time of the July 25th phone call so it couldn't be a quid pro quo and this supports that Trump argument. An earlier reported timeline showed that Zelinsky was aware that aid was being held up when the July 25th phone call took place. This just doesn't look right.

(15,522 posts)asked if the money was being held up the evening of July 25th. That leaves open the issue of whether Zelinsky himself knew prior to the phone call that he had to announce the investigation in order for the funds from the U.S. to be released.

(7,403 posts)But the article claims that Trump, in a fit following the phone call with Zelinsky ordered the hold. Below is a cut-and-paste that clearly places the hold ahead of the phone call, which is my primary point about the accuracy of the AP timeline. Of course it makes no sense to punish Ukraine over European aid levels for Ukraine.
"thanks to reports in the Washington Post and New York Times this week, we now have a little more information.
Mick Mulvaney, the dual-hatted acting White House chief of staff and director of the Office of Management and Budget, told leaders at the State Department and Pentagon in mid-July that Trump wanted the money withheld because he had concerns about the aids necessity. Those departments were instructed to inform members of Congress with questions about the delay that the money was coming but that its disbursement had been held up by interagency process. Those questions did come, but lawmakers received little information.
That timing is important, since Mulvaneys announcement came about a week before Trump and Zelensky spoke on the phone. What makes matters worse, some say, is that the directive came from the president himself meaning Trump may have used the new delay as leverage to extract something from his Ukrainian counterpart.
Trump has changed his story about why he personally withheld the military support at least twice. On Monday, Trump told reporters that his decision was due to concerns about corruption in Zelenskys new government. But asked a similar question on Tuesday, Trumps talking point suddenly changed: now he said hed withheld the aid out of frustration that European countries were not doing enough to support Ukraine themselves.
My complaint has always been, and Id withhold again, and Ill continue to withhold until such time as Europe and other nations contribute to Ukraine, because theyre not doing it, Trump told reporters ahead of his speech to the United Nations General Assembly."

(20,185 posts)This "aid" was approved by BOTH PARTIES in Congress. A big part of the reason we have such deep pockets for countries like Ukraine and Israel is that they turn around and purchase weapons and military aircraft from AMERICAN companies. It's really just a fat handout to the Military Industrial Complex that Eisenhower warned us about.
Without Zelensky having to awkwardly ask "Um, where's that $400M you promised?", he said "We're ready to buy some Javelins". What's he going to buy the Javelins with? THE $400 MILLION APPROVED BY CONGRESS.
It is not Trump or Mick Motherfucker Mulvaney's right to withhold or delay that money in any way. In fact, my guess is that Trump was trying to delay the distribution to the end of the fiscal year on September 30th so that it would go back into the general fund. I'm sure that would have made Vlad happy.
