(28,836 posts)I'm a little surprised that it's only 43%. I guess some Republicans still have at least some passing knowledge of the Constitution.

So then, 43% of Republicans either don't understand our form of government and how it benefits them directly and/or they don't respect it and are, essentially, not patriotic about it at all. They seem willing to hand our democracy over to a tin pot dictator under a delusional umbrella where they imagine that something beneficial will "get done" despite the obvious lack of that under the current, wannabe autocrat.
We need more civics education where it is made clear just how this thing works and why the USA was founded and crafted the way it was, which includes their right to be ignorant assholes about it, but not necessarily to change the country into one big dunce bag of fools out of spite or for ulterior motives.

(36,594 posts)This is a constitutional republic. We fled the fucking crown in England to get away from that. I guess when youre too stupid to learn history, or even to know how our country began thats what you would think.

(76,132 posts)This is 43% of 30%. It's declared Republicans being polled.
So it's still only around 1 in 8.
Too, too high, but it's not 43% of people! It's less than 1/3rd of that.

The size of the swing is so large that it's questionable UNLESS the size of the "Rep/Lean Rep" group is lower. I think that's a major factor here. The size of the republican "base" has been shrinking for a long time and its decline has accelerated during trump.

(40,915 posts)Freedom of the press may be guaranteed in the Constitution. But a plurality of Republicans want to give President Trump the authority to close down certain news outlets, according to a new public opinion survey conducted by Ipsos and provided exclusively to The Daily Beast.
So that 43% of republicans would approve a democrat shutting down Fox news?
