(60,311 posts)I was having lunch with some Belgian friends in Brussels yesterday, and when the fries were served, they reminded me on their own about "Freedom Fries." What we call "French Fries" are actually a Belgian dish. Both the Belgians AND the French have been bewildered for many decades as to why we would call them "French" fries--and especially how finally ceasing to call them that was somehow meant to be an insult.
And Boo (pronounced BAW-zho) is a common Serbian name, just like Bill or Bob in English. The man who made most of my guitars was an immigrant from Novi Sad in Serbia, and was named Boo. His family name was Podunavac, which simply means "from below the Danube." Far from being a clown, he was a kindly, brilliant artist.
