(14,725 posts)Most of my older beloved uncles and other farmer friends and family in Texas had rednecks, even if they wore bandannas. Most were kind and polite lovely people. Not a hateful person among them. The people to whom this term refer have probably never spent a hard day working in the hot sun and gotten a red neck.

(7,612 posts)and even thought they were pretty cool. That is until I lived among them for the last 30 years. Not all but most are undereducated, xenophobic, racist, and generally uncouth. Not all mind you but by far the majority. There is a reason that Texas continues to stay RED - it is rural areas made up of these types of people.

(7,612 posts)know we differ. However, even after me telling them not to use the "N" word because I find it offensive they tend to casually throw it in pretty regularly ( I assume because they know I do not like it). They also are constantly telling me how "us liberals" are wanting to take away our guns, etc. They know that is not true but seem to think it is important to say, etc. They also like to use the term "mesicans or wetbacks" in a derogatory sense even though they use these people to build fence (which they do a great job) and do chores around their ranches. The most common thing I find is most say that is how they grew up and don't mean anything by it but I call "Bullshit". They know it is offensive but think it is cool or cute and part of their genre.
I respect people's right to differ on their politics but I do not find it amusing and it is really a shame becuase we seem to have a lot in common but I have no desire to be aroud people like this. I've considered moving for years but I love the country and so does my wife - just wish they maybe had better manners.
