1. Their favorite to-threes (not Gotos) are: Strawman, Red Herring, and Ad Hominem.

Their all forms of distraction and all mean 100% positively that you've won the oral argument.

The first two are your first indication, first level or hint that they know you've won. On this first level, they pivot to some other topic to keep you defending. DON'T. Call them on the carpet right there. You've won. Tell them to stick to the subject, the proposition of the argument.

The Ad Hominem attack upon you personally always immediately follows. You've won. They know you've won and now they're upset and lash out. "You're stupid." This is the acknowledgement that they've lost the plot of the original proposition. You can smile, but don't attack them back. Just laugh. That burns them even worse. You've defeated their argument and they have nothing left but to insult.
