On Friday, the Deadpool actor shared his new video on Instagram featuring actress Monica Ruiz, who appeared in the controversial Peloton ad. In the one for gin, Ruiz appears in a daze with friends over cocktails. This gin is really smooth, she says, gazing into space.
We can get you another one, if youd like, her friend chimes in. Youre safe here, the other friend adds.

(1,713 posts)Myself and zero members of my social circle saw absolutely nothing wrong with the bike ad.

(44,973 posts)Because obviously exercise is not just for losing weight. Thin people should exercise too. So I don't find the ad offensive. But for whatever reason she looks terrified in the bike ad.

(12,814 posts)... he was supporting her training for a bike race, not sexist-ly telling her to lose weight.

(44,973 posts)I guess if they can see you that would be terrifying if you don't think you are in best shape.

(3,630 posts)They show them interacting. And, if so, yeah, I would not really be comfortable with that for the reason you expressed.

(108,978 posts)Its also worth noting that the Peloton tablet attached to the bike has a front-facing camera and microphone built into it. Peloton says this can be used for video chatting among members a feature that almost every single Peloton user I spoke to while writing this story said theyve never used. How customers feel about the camera and microphone probably depends on whether theyre also the kind of person who covers up their laptop camera and uses encrypted messaging apps, but Im not embarrassed to say I felt unnerved having a camera aimed at me while I was sweating my way through online classes. One person close to the company told me that Michelle Obama has a Peloton, but its been modified, without a camera or microphone. Peloton declined to comment on this at all, as did the press office of Michelle Obama.
Feng acknowledged that the the chance of someone maliciously activating that camera isnt zero. But he said that the the fact that Peloton doesnt let users download apps onto the device is a huge factor in creating a secure environment.

(3,630 posts)apart form the cost and driving factors obviously, is the privacy. That's a big selling point for me. I wouldn't want to be a part of the experience they're selling.

My guess is her looking scared is why some people got upset at the ad and started claiming her husband (in the ad) must be abusive.

(12,814 posts)My theory could still apply, even if it was just for him as "the audience." People have all sorts of health goals for all sorts of reasons.
There's really nothing inherently there there. Just some viewers' interpretations.

Again, it all falls on her.
