Do you remember during the Clinton years how Newt Gingrich and others

took the high ground in order to moralize on Clinton's life and only later did we discover they had huge morality lapses in their own lives?

I think about that as Republicans keep pounding on Biden's son's job opportunity. Why doesn't the press do an investigation to determine just what kind of jobs the spouses and children of congress people have today?

Start with Mitch McConnell.

Since this is an inventory of Congress people today. In my time there was a book called, "Who Runs Congress?" by Mark J. Green. I think we could use an update.

In fact, even at the time we knew Gingrich was a slug. It was no secret that Gingrich had written NSF checks on the House bank. (He had overdrafts on twenty-two checks, including a large check to the Internal Revenue Service in 1990.) He was investigated for numerous ethics violations, and in 1996 he was reprimanded by the house for claiming tax-exempt status for a college course run for political purposes, and ordered to reimburse the House for the cost of the investigation in the amount of $300,000. His first wife was his high school geometry teacher, whom he told he was filing for divorce while she was in the hospital following cancer surgery (he had been having an affair with a campaign volunteer). He later married the campaign volunteer, but started cheating on her, too, in the mid-90s, including during the Clinton impeachment, and filed for divorce in 1999, shortly after she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. He married his current wife only four months later.

Bob Barr (R-GA), who had an affair while married to his second wife, was the first member of Congress to call for Clinton's resignation.

Dan Burton (R-IN) stated "No one, regardless of what party they serve, no one, regardless of what branch of government they serve, should be allowed to get away with these alleged sexual improprieties...." But Burton later admitted he had fathered a child with a state employee.

Robert Livingston (R-LA) called for Clinton's resignation but when his own extramarital affairs were leaked, his wife urged him to resign.

Henry Hyde (R-IL) had an affair when he was 41 years old and married, but tried to pass it off as a "youthful indiscretion" when it was revealed while he was spearheading the Clinton impeachment.

Wasn't Hyde the one that blamed the affair he engaged in at the age of 41 as "youthful indiscretion."

I mean, it would be interesting to see where along the curve this compensation falls.
