(6,448 posts)But before all the Watergate festivities, Vice President Spiro Agnew resigned in disgrace for tax evasion. Mike Pence, were you paying attention back in high school when all this happened?
And "disbar Barr"? Suddenly my computer has an echo.

(2,192 posts)It's quite a large and impressive pile of misbehavior that's called out in clear detail, everything from mis-characterizing the Mueller Report to perpetuating conspiracy theories. In what used to be normal times I would expect this Resolution to make headlines. I'll be interested to see if it gains traction or even notice in days and months to come.

(25,967 posts)his resignation snd. disbarment, but it is up to each bar where he is a member to do the actusl disbarment. If disbarred, he would be unable to remain as AG I presume.
AFAIK, Congress has the power to impeach and convict federal office holders, but a conviction of Bsrr would be impossible in today's congress. Disbarment would accomplish the same end.
If this is presented as a House resolution, I don't think it needs to go to the Senate for any action. It looks like it is just a formal request for action from the House to the appropriate bars.
Recursion
(56,582 posts)It's not like the AG argues cases himself. He could continue without credentials.

(25,967 posts)Doesn't the AG office sometimes represent a position before SCOTUS? I suppose he has underlings to do that. But it would look peculiar to have a disbarred AG and erode public confidence in him for being labeled as officially corrupt.

(13,006 posts)The legislative branch does not control the practice of law - who is and is not disbarred. The decision of whether to disbar belongs with the judicial branch.
