I hate to be one of those "OMG!!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!!" types of people, but it kind of is. Do not think for a minute that what happened in England can't happen here. The conservatives, with as much as their party is a dumpster fire currently have two things going for them:
1) The clergy is hard in for this administration and they will not budge, and no conservative is too conservative enough for them, they will be all in for this administration.
2) Fox News. Trump's biggest mouthpiece is Sean Hannity, and as long as he's on the air, he'll convince the 47% who vote conservative that everything the Democrats pull is an anti Trump conspiracy. They will be all in.
The point that I'm making is that we must stop them. We have SCOTUS at stake. If what happened in England happens here, we're finished. But not if we vote in numbers too big to ignore. We must get out the vote in 2020.

(17,865 posts)One thing I imagine is sudden power outages in Milwaukee, Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia on election day.
We have witnessed how fragile our democracy has become.

(45,806 posts)"Hillary is going to win!" and "The majority will never elect somebody like DT." When election day came, lots of people who didn't feel like going out again after working all day, or just plain didn't feel like voting, said "Awe hell, they said Hillary's a lock to win anyway, she doesn't need my vote. Then when the votes were counted, Hillary didn't have enough!
Let's not do that again! We need to keep saying how we need all the votes we can get because we don't wasn't DT to win AGAIN!

(2,405 posts)trump lost the popular vote by 3 million.
trump won the electoral clusterfuck by a grand total of 77,000 votes in 3 key states. Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
His approval in those states... and virtually every other state... has dropped.
Take a look... https://morningconsult.com/tracking-trump-2/
Yes, I know about voter suppression, gerrymandering, and I believe we've seen vote-stealing. We'll see those things in 2020.
But I can't believe that trump's low approval rate and high disapproval rate leads anywhere but a loss.
Show me how I'm wrong.

(58,785 posts)He should never have won before, and I've reached the point where I think he almost certainly didn't legitimately get even the electoral majority.
We're already a significant majority, but we're going to have to definitively outvote the machinations of enemies both foreign and domestic.
That said, I believe Pollyanna's wisdom has always been sadly underestimated.

(1,856 posts)What the polling indicates has taken place in England (sorry, I still havent seen any actual returns) should be a wake up call for us in fact.

(100,100 posts)But not at all surprised. We must get out the vote, and vote in every god damn election. Doesn't matter if it's a school board, city council, state rep, etc. It's the reason we get the Matt Gaetzs and Jim Jordans of the world. We have to get these monsters out no matter the cost.

(1,856 posts)Youre absolutely right. We have to have massive turnout, and not just for this election. Would that there were a way we could keep these total sell out performances we are witnessing this week and last in the public memory for the next several election cycles. Thats the kind of tamp down that it is going to take to show the fascists that we are serious. Two or three cycles of serious marginalizing would go a long way towards keeping them subdued for as long as possible.

(70,729 posts)He's lost before, when PELOSI won the first time. For months before the election he was frothing over, seething at his audience that they had better go vote or the worst thing that ever happened in the universe was going to happen, namely PELOSI as Speaker, hah!
That said, am sticking this here, something that years of yak media have driven home: How a lot of the most voluble yakkers and debaters, Left and Right, are alumni of Catholic school. Those nuns ground out the remnants of the medieval curriculum and methods: Rote, rhetoric, physical discipline. Hence, Tweety, O'LOOFAH, Hannity, Pat BUCHANAN, and many more. Not even mentioning the horrid ideology (think, Opus Dei).
