seeing what's happening in our country.
Though I have some belief it will pass, what happens in the interim panics me. Going after Biden and Obama ...leaves me in terror.
Anyone else struggling to hold on to their sanity?
I'm an old woman, now. On one hand, liberated from chains of obligation I had in my earlier years. On the other, concerned about my durability.
Fight of my life, politically, so far. My confidence in the American people shaken. I know the Dems are doing the right thing. No comparison. Drumpf and the Rs are evil personified. Maybe need a support group. DU, I guess. None of my friends really want to discuss. Too ugly, I guess.

(82 posts)I want to watch all of it but at times it gets so frustrating. It has been a terrible three years and I fear for my grandsons and their future.

(18,509 posts)We are here to support and comfort each other as we witness America circle the drain. Our Democracy must survive the encroaching Fascism.

(640 posts)I'm scared, too. Feel as though we're stuck in a nightmare and we aren't going to wake up. Everyday is a new and terrifying evidence that our country has veered totally out of control. I'm not seeing any reasons for optimism that it might actually improve. Everything just feels so "wrong". I need a support group, too.

(53,410 posts)Take some time out to do something you love and to seek out the things that are good in this world. Binge watch movies or tv show entire seasons. If you like to get out take a drive to appreciate nature. If you paint then paint your favorite subject. If you like to read then read a novel, not a political book. Go to lunch with a friend and talk about anything but politics. Do something you enjoy.
It will all still be here when you come back. DU is where you can be with people who are political junkies.

(42,649 posts)And while some might argue that some on the South are still fighting it, it did end.
If you are in a blue area, you might want to look for a local chapter of Move On or Indivisible.

(79,051 posts)"Surreal" is the exact word that my cousin and I both use in our daily telephone conversations about current events. Yesterday, we were questioning if Abbie Hoffman's "threat" to pour LSD into the Chicago water supply before the 1968 Democratic Convention had a 51-year delayed response? Perhaps the republicans found a stash of the infamous brown acid from Woodstock? Is there any better explanation for their behaviors? Damned if I know.
Yet we can focus instead on the Good Works of the Democrats in the House, and anticipate those in the Senate continuing that effort. And that is important. Indeed, it is the single most important dynamic in the insane political circumstances we find ourselves in. More, it requires that we (citizens) do our very best to support their efforts here, at the grassroots' level.
Doing our best should not be mistaken for fighting at a constant pace that exhausts us. As I frequently note on this forum, even boxers take a minute's rest between every round in a fight. And no great fighter, such as Muhammad Ali, fought his hardest in every minute of every round of a tough fight. No, it's not the way important struggles are won. Take the time you need to step back, talk with sane, ratiional people, and regroup.

(26,525 posts)Yes - my response when the Rs repeatedly drumbeat about polls, is: SOMETIMES YOU DO THE RIGHT THING BECAUSE IT IS RIGHT, NOT BECAUSE IT IS POPULAR.
A sentiment I'll wager they have no comprehension of.
I'm not so sure it's LSD, but I do suspect lead. I think it is more widespread than only Flint.
Thank you.

(4,503 posts)I just want to see him and Pence out of office next year. I fear the chaos he will inflict between 11/20 & 01/21. I'm glad I don't have grandchildren who will have to face this world we leave behind. My health may not get me through 5 more years of him.
