So I went to one of my local impeachment rallies. There were maybe 30-40 people there. Smaller than I was hoping for, but it's a smaller city on the water and it was cold and rainy.
People had signs and were chanting at the cars that came by. Bunch of cars honked in solidarity. One truck with some college kids screamed "Go Donald Trump" out the window, and 1 woman cussed us out, but other than that most people seemed supportive.
Sadly, the group broke up in about an hour and I heard who I assume is the organizer tell someone else most people just don't give a crap. Trump has given a voice to bigots and other horrible people and lots of people like that.
So overall I was rather discouraged. It didn't give me much hope for the future of this country.

Sorry so small, but I understand; weather's NOT ideal. I stayed in MoCo to avoid traveling (to southern MD) today; returning tomorrow.
Thanks for attending.

(42,307 posts)I get your discouragement. But, please believe there is hope. I live in a FL county that is rural, red and retirement. In the past 3 years, I have connected with so many Democrats - all of us "coming out of the closet" so to speak. I've helped to charter a Democratic Women's Club here and have participated in several rallies/protests.
Our rally tonight had more than 100 people! Many of these people do not belong to the Democratic clubs, they've found each other on the dreaded Facebook. A non-partisan, but left leaning and anti-Trump group sprung up organically about 6 months ago and now has 200+ members.
Even better, the response from drivers-by was overwhelmingly positive.
I get discouraged too. Many of my friends here are apolitical but vote R because abortion or something. We don't talk politics. Getting together with other Democrats has kept me sane these last 3 years.
The big thing, for me, is when I or others introduce closeted Democrats to our club. When they come to their first meeting and say, "I didn't know there were other Democrats here," it is everything.
Tonight's rally, even though it was cut short by a really bad storm, leaves me with much hope.

(25,969 posts)In spite of the small population pool and the weather, people did show up, they rallied and got a good response. It was a win! Go you for being there! Thank you to you and your fellow citizens!

(4,612 posts)And honestly it sounds like you had a pretty good rally. You can't expect every single person going by to be supportive. Obviously, there are idiots out there.

(8,231 posts)people actually attended that rally. Maybe you inspired others to attend the next time.
One time I could not attend the rally but I was able to drive by and I circled a few times and honked up a storm.
