George Conway and other conservative critics launch PAC to take down Trump

“As Americans, we must stem the damage he and his followers are doing to the rule of law, the Constitution and the American character," the group wrote.

A group of conservative critics of President Donald Trump — including lawyer George Conway, husband of White House aide Kellyanne Conway — is launching a super PAC that will spend the next year working against Trump’s reelection and Trump loyalism within the GOP.

“Patriotism and the survival of our nation in the face of the crimes, corruption and corrosive nature of Donald Trump are a higher calling than mere politics,” the founders of the Lincoln Project wrote in a New York Times opinion piece published Tuesday. “As Americans, we must stem the damage he and his followers are doing to the rule of law, the Constitution and the American character.”

The group also pledged to transcend partisanship to preserve Constitutional principles. Trump "has neither the moral compass nor the temperament to serve,” the group wrote.

George Conway, a conservative lawyer who has frequently offered scathing criticism of Trump, has created political headaches for Kellyanne Conway, one of Trump’s most loyal advisers. George Conway and Trump have exchanged pointed barbs, with Conway calling for the president’s impeachment for what he says is corrupt behavior and Trump calling Conway a “husband from hell.”
Now, as Conway is campaigning against his wife’s boss, questions are sure to continue about the couple's opposing political stances.

Other principals in the group include Steve Schmidt, a former adviser to John McCain; John Weaver, the chief strategist for John Kasich’s presidential campaign in 2016; and Republican political strategist Rick Wilson.
The group is aiming to raise and spend millions of dollars on advertising to dissuade Republican voters from backing Trump’s reelection bid.

“Those wounds can be bound up only once the threat has been defeated,” the Lincoln Project founders wrote. “So, too, will our country have to knit itself back together after the scourge of Trumpism has been overcome.”

* In the Conway home during dinner, George gets a phone call from his PAC partners and has to excuse himself from the dinner table so Kelly Anne won't hear what he is talking about. I bet he has to take his cellphone in the bathroom.

but she's getting paid to do a job. Who knows, maybe George encourages her to stay so she can keep him and his friends apprised of what's going on inside the admin.

Weird. Trump is so paranoid and always feels someone working close to him is leaking information. I mean she is married to the guy who is after you.

Ten years ago the GOP started the Tea Party and now this. I don't trust any GOPer as far as I can throw them, even the ever-tRumpers like Conway, Schmidt and Sullivan.

Rick Wilson was on MSNBC yesterday and said this election wasn't about policy but character of the President and retaining our democracy. He also said they're going to be flooding swing and electoral college must win states with anti-Trump ads and they'll be helping Dems in red/purple districts. House and Senate Republicans refuse to hold Trump accountable so they have to go even if that means a Democratic House, Senate and President . It's called teaching them a lesson.

"The American presidency transcends the individuals who occupy the Oval Office. Their personality becomes part of our national character. Their actions become our actions, for which we all share responsibility. Their willingness to act in accordance with the law and our tradition dictate how current and future leaders will act. Their commitment to order, civility and decency are reflected in American society.

Mr. Trump fails to meet the bar for this commitment. He has neither the moral compass nor the temperament to serve. His vision is limited to what immediately faces him — the problems and risks he chronically brings upon himself and for which others, from countless contractors and companies to the American people, ultimately bear the heaviest burden.

But this president’s actions are possible only with the craven acquiescence of congressional Republicans. They have done no less than abdicate their Article I responsibilities.Indeed, national Republicans have done far worse than simply march along to Mr. Trump’s beat. Their defense of him is imbued with an ugliness, a meanness and a willingness to attack and slander those who have shed blood for our country, who have dedicated their lives and careers to its defense and its security, and whose job is to preserve the nation’s status as a beacon of hope.

Mr. Trump and his fellow travelers daily undermine the proposition we as a people have a responsibility and an obligation to continually bend the arc of history toward justice. They mock our belief in America as something more meaningful than lines on a map.Our peril far outstrips any past differences: It has arrived at our collective doorstep, and we believe there is no other choice. We sincerely hope, but are not optimistic, that some of those Republicans charged with sitting as jurors in a likely Senate impeachment trial will do likewise"

Rick and the rest of these guys haven't changed their tune since Trump's been elected. One look at the the Lincoln Project's Twitter feed tells me they're serious so I sent them 20 bucks. In this instance, the 2020 election, they are allies. I'll go back to arguing with them later.

These are all political consultants who aren't being hired this time around, so why not set up another revenue stream.

Bill Kristol set up a similar group last year.

and he said that they’re going to be flooding swing states and electoral college must win states with anti- Trump ads and they’ll also help out Dems running in red/ purple districts. There are other Republican strategists involved , too. Rick said it’s about character and retaining our Democracy and ANY Democrat would be better than this collection of House and Senate Republicans and Trump. Kudos to them for this effort.
