(43,850 posts)There's another discussion thread from earlier that has some back and forth. I'm glad you started another with a direct call for active commenting - I really enjoy a big collection of voices during these, as I can miss a lot.

(23,128 posts)The investigation showed there was enough proof of wrong-doing to have an impeachment trial. You had a chance to present proof that trump had done no wrong. But no. He ordered people not to appear, he refused to send papers and other records, so if you don't feel he had rights, well, his fault. And you ignorant as**kissers backed him up, utterly willing to surrender your power to a treasonous criminal.
You are debating to vote to go forward with a trial, which as this point is a big fat fake, but that is another opportunity for trump to present his evidence. What part of that do you not get? And why did you even run for public office if you don't bother to read and understand the rule of law, the oath you took and other points germane to your elected position.

(5,101 posts)Every time one of these Republicans spews his/her bullshit, it gets worse and worse. When Trump was elected, I wouldnt have thought that Republicans would engage in such a full-throated defense of him. Hearing Republican representative after Republican representative rise and lie to defend the worst, crookedest president in modern history is so demoralizing. They are so corrupt. Its terrible to see, even when expected.

Not one word from the GOP defending a president extorting, bribing, coercing foreign interference in our elections and then ordering subordinates to ignore lawful subpoenas.

Each side creates a schedule for speakers and they show up around the time they are scheduled. Otherwise you often have everyone else in Committee meetings.

(2,337 posts)He almost won. When he started blathering his Obama hatred I was within arms reach of the entertainment center, and I almost switched it off, and put on some Miles Davis, Milestones to soothed my soul. Its pretty chapped just now, and Ill get to the Milestones a little later in the day. Im forcing myself to watch, Im forcing myself to listen.
I dont want to forget the liars faces. I want to know that my anger, which I go a long way to avoid sometimes, Im pretty non confrontational, is justified and right.
Its tough to listen to the sincerity they put into what I know are lies sometimes. But I have to.

Interesting. In 2008 Trump said Clinton should not have been impeached (it was an unimportant thing) but Bush should have.

(36,631 posts)Every GOPer claiming "no evidence" or "no first-hand evidence" is a liar. Trump's confession of abuse of power is available to them all. This is sufficient, by itself, to support the first Article of Impeachment.
Trump ordered subordinates to ignore lawful subpoenas. Witnesses could invoke executive privilege during testimony and that could be litigated in court, but they cannot lawfully ignore a subpoena. This is sufficient to support the second Article of Impeachment.
Republicans are deliberately deceiving, a.k.a., lying.

(169,239 posts)since Amash is an Independent. But since he has been supporting impeachment, then it would be up to either Nadler or Schiff to give him time (if he wishes to give public remarks) after all the scheduled (D)s have spoken. They all have the opportunity to enter written remarks into the record (they don't have to do it as a speech).
