(2,035 posts)Speaker Pelosi is in the house!
IIRC, her daughter said, "Don't mess with mama!"

(18,748 posts)I've admired Nancy Pelosi for a long time, but I got all swoony when she sent that little universal signal that meant, "not now". She's a force with real class.

(9,686 posts)make this small very fast wrist action and everyone in the family knew the answer was either "NO" or "Forget about it, it's not going to happen." Ms. Nancy is a true Italian woman. I love it!!!

(1,076 posts)I remember overhearing him tell his friends that I didn't have to get physical with him, or raise my voice. One look, and he was looking for an escape hatch. On a memorable occasion, he literally ran from me when I gave him The Look, and his friends ran, too. As one of them put it to me later, he didn't want to risk collateral damage just because my kid was being stupid. Another one told my son, "Your mom is so scary that it's sorta hot!"
Ew!
But I get that a lot, for some weird reason.

(4,341 posts)And I stand corrected. I was becoming desperate because it seemed there was no palpable action going on to make the creature accountable for his crimes, that Pelosi was being too careful. I must admit that I was wrong, she is a brilliant strategist and I should have understood when she said "he will impeach himself", she knew that the creature, who is so prone to criminal actions, would slip and fall on his face.
What a leader she is, what a great politician, and she has her instincts in place, that look to stop the cheering last night was epic, so in time and in the moment.
Thank you Madam Speaker, you make us all very proud.

(18,748 posts)because I had also been wondering *when*? And what I'm learning now is that Nancy Pelosi's power is quiet, but it's huge. (Especially when combined with that "Momma" look)

(18,486 posts)I'm not surprised that you and many others doubted her - we're not used to seeing public figures operate with patience anymore. So much today is now now now, thinking only as far as the next move and next news cycle. Pelosi doesn't care about that. She's very patient and strategic and doesn't care if people are mad at her, say bad things about her or think she's weak because she doesn't yell back at them every day.
Now people - especially the Republicans - are seeing that what they thought was cowardice or doubt was actually cool cunning calculation.
the MOM of moms when it comes to keeping her caucus in line. She is a master politician, strategist and leader. I never doubted her knowing full well what we are dealing with. She will be instrumental in rebuilding our country when this is done... and I will be thrilled with what she has in mind when that time comes. Notice that even House members who doubted her now show her the utmost respect and admiration.
We all need to keep in mind that not only has this woman been on the political scene for her entire life, she has either written, sponsored or voted for every law since she entered the House. She knows the Constitution like she knows her own name.
With the foe we have before us, there was no other person in the House who could have guided us to this point. She is wise, holds her cards close to her chest and rarely reveals what she has going on that isn't an idea ripe for the public's consumption, just like a good, protective mom.
She's one of the most American of Americans ever, without being a zealot, and she'll protect our rights as long as she's around.

(18,748 posts)She was so completely in control, both with handling the impeachment hearing itself, and the sideways look at her own caucus. For the latter, Nancy Pelosi obviously has real affection.

(15,061 posts)She made it clear to her caucus, in advance of the vote, that this was not the time for cheering or happiness. That look just underscored it. This is a sad time for America, not a time for celebrating.
You know that the other side would have been popping champagne if they had done the same thing.
