https://www.rawstory.com/2019/12/trumps-advisers-repeatedly-assured-him-for-weeks-nancy-pelosi-wouldnt-have-the-votes-for-impeachment-report/
On Thursday, The New York Times published an analysis of President Donald Trumps political position in the wake of being impeached for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.
One of the key takeaways, according to reporters Peter Baker, Maggie Haberman, Jeremy Peters, and Elaina Plott, is that until the final hours, Trump didnt really believe he was going to be impeached because his advisers had been telling him as much.
For Mr. Trump, the day after found him still a little shellshocked, according to people close to him, stated the report. Despite the clear momentum behind impeachment among Democrats in recent weeks, some of Mr. Trumps advisers tried to convince him and themselves that Speaker Nancy Pelosi did not have the votes and might not even bring the articles of impeachment to the floor, despite warnings from the White House director of legislative affairs, Eric Ueland, that the votes were there.
Per the Times, Trumps campaign is doing its utmost to capitalize off of the impeachment, with his campaign manager Brad Parscale branding Democrats traitors in a fundraising blast and proclaiming, Lets make sure they know that we will NEVER FORGET. But some Republicans are doubtful Trump can politically benefit.

(82,849 posts)Yeah, the day Trump was called out at long last for the damage he's done to the United States. I'll make it my personal mission to see that you don't forget, Parscale.

I wouldn't be surprised if that became his primary focus in the coming year.
I sure hope he tries something patently illegal and gets caught.

(73 posts)If Trump wins in 2020, he will make his second term all about exacting revenge on those he believes slighted him. The GOP seems enthralled by Trump's allure and power. If we think Trump is vindictive now, a second term Trump would grind the government to a halt if it meant sweet revenge and tears.
Imo, Trump will try to leave miles of metaphorical scorched earth in his wake. If he can't have his way, he will make life very miserable for his opponents to the best of his ability. His administration and followers want their pound of flesh. The next year (hopefully not 5) will be a cavalcade of petty, childish antics, further dividing and weakening our nation.
Trump should have never been President. He never had the temperament for it. It was always about his ego, and nothing more. His mental state seems to be deteriorating. The worst part now, in my mind, is the uncertainty.

(18,632 posts)That will be 3 months to destroy everything he can in government before he leaves office.
And being president with a horde of minions willing to do anything he says we could be in big trouble then.
So we're screwed whether he wins or loses.

And PS... his own children can't even tell him the truth. That's fucking pathetic.

Of course, maybe that was part of the plan. Maybe after the day in and day out abuse, they WANTED to witness that.

(63,221 posts)I want to know that he is miserable and in pain. I want to see him crumble in public. He is a very weak person and all we need to do is just keep pushing and pushing and he will eventually go over the edge. I think he is almost at the precipice. Just a few more blows will do him in.

(6,584 posts)I sure as hell wouldn't want to be the one to tell cheato he was going to be impeached. Who knows, he might keep a gun hidden somewhere. He already claimed he could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and get away with it, so it's logical that he'd do it at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue without a second thought. What a freak!

Rachel had Barbara Res on Thursday. Former executive vice president at the Trump Organization. She says:
"He will exact revenge on a lot of people. A lot of people."

Maybe Dumpy's reputation for revenge is what some Republican cowards are afraid of if they don't stay on their knees.

(14,490 posts)I expect a flood of very mean executive orders in the coming months and his rallies will all be tantrums.
Also expect a flood of new mud-throwing at every House Democratic rep on right-wing talk radio and Faux News.
Our Reps will need to be watchful and try to counter this administration's evil moves......
