The Republican Party is NOT dead. They said the same thing about us in 1972

Democratic Party won one state: Mass.... I worked for McGovern, and watched the returns come in that night.
And they said it was "all over for us."... Strange how politics works & who wins in 76? Was it Jimmy Carter?

.... Yes, it was. Was the Democratic party "dead"? No it wasn't. There will always be an opposing party. The name might change, but what it stands for will be the same. Lots of money to support the Republican Party.
.......................say it again..........."Lots of money to support the Republican Party"........................
................................again.........."Lots of money to support the Republican Party".........................
................................again.........."Lots of money to support the Republican Party"

...............get the picture?

What happened in the 1972 election? ...Here is why they said Democratic Party was Dead.

It was held on Tuesday, November 7, 1972. Incumbent Republican President Richard Nixon defeated Democratic Senator George McGovern of South Dakota. ... Nixon won the election in a landslide, taking 60.7% of the popular vote and carrying 49 states, and he was the first Republican to sweep the South.
Nixon......................................................................McGovern
Electoral vote?: ?520 ....................................... ....... Electoral Vote 17
Home state?: ?California........................................ Home state South Dakota

States carried?: ?49 ........... ....................................... States carried: 1
Popular vote?: ?47,168,710 ....................................................29,174,000
Percent of vote 60.7...............................................................37

The Democratic Party did not die after this election. We won the very next election..
The idea is this: Never, ever, underestimate the opposition, no matter what it looks like..

They're not going to die out any time soon. They're not even suffering the sort of blemishes and disregard they got from the Nixon near-impeachment.

Nope, they're not done yet. They will kick and scream and claw and do as much damage as possible all the way down.

They said the Republican Party was dead.....

Who won in 1952? A Republican named Dwight D. Eisenhower, that is who.

It's degenerated into an organized crime syndicate that wins elections by cheating, inviting foreign interference, and using stupid bullshit to "trigger libtards" and amuse its mouthbreathing fanbase.

I look at the numbers and wonder how it is that Trump can still have so much support. But this is a different country than it was in 1972 and in 1976. Lots of ignorance out there, some of it willful, some of it deliberate. I blame a lot of the polarization we are seeing on Rush Limbaugh and his advancement of extremist right wing media as a "niche" from which he made money. I don't think that blowhard believes half of what he says, but he's turned political disagreement into near-war.

Still, I do not see how Trump survives this. He has his base but his detractors and opposition are everywhere. The Democratic party is sitting on the verge of the best opportunity it has had for a landslide win in an election since Johnson drubbed Goldwater in 1964. So I appeal to those running for President--Don't blow this! All you have to do is pull together and unite a segment of voters that didn't show up in 2016 because they didn't like Hillary. So don't be stupid and get all angry because you didn't get your way in the primaries. The priority here is that Trump must be dumped and the Republicans must get the beating of a generation so that this ignorance and stupidity they are exhibiting will stop and the blinders can be knocked off their faces.
