Does anybody know what happened to Weather Underground's on line web site?

For years it was my go to weather site but for the past 1/2 year or so
it no longer has any content and or radar maps.

I see the named used on the Weather Channel but its on line presence is now nothing.

Weather Underground was my #1 weather web site particularly in hurricane season.

The maps have been a mess for over a year.

It doesn't last very long, and I think the changes have improved it. I really like the addition of the "windstreams" option, among others. It seems to be a bit of a work in progress.

I have been using WTVJ live radar down here in So Fla.. https://www.nbcmiami.com/weather
They have some good ratings for weather forecasting and you can't beat live radar. YMMV

I use it because I live in a little town, so the "official" weather forecasts tend to be for the biggest cities 50 miles north or south, and I want to see an actual local reading and forecast.

It was the greatest weather site I have ever seen. Then it started getting stupid and hard to use. I just went to it and it is full of clickbait ads. I see where you can join and log it. Maybe that is better. WU is dead to me.

If you go to the main page, the links to radar, etc. are all at the top of the page. Just click on "Maps and Radar" and take your pick. Or, you can just type in your location in the locator box. That will get you the local forecast and maps. I just keep the local page bookmarked and handy.

20. Don't use AccuWeather.

It's run by the Myers brothers. Barry Myers is Trump's appointee to head NOAA and he is another one who is determined to destroy the agency from within.

"“President Trump has responded to NOAA’s remarkable work ... by nominating an administrator who has a history of trying to block the agency from issuing weather forecasts to the American public,” Michael Conathan, the center’s director of ocean policy, said in a statement."

He has no scientific degree, just a business and law degree and he is only interested in fighting government programs that would cut into AccuWeather's profits. He, like Trump, is only out for himself. He is NOT a scientist. He and his brother are greedy right-wing activists and should not be supported.

Use Weather Channel or something else. Anything but AccuWeather.

https://www.wunderground.com/intellicast

Go to link above and play around to pinpoint your area. Ok, not as good as old Intellicast which was 100% interactive allowing a zoom in on a weather cell or pin point location. It made it so easy to anticipate and prepare for approaching weather. Intellicast was a huge loss!

I fear that all online weather radar will be privatized & expensive eventually unless Congress acts

I used to use Intellicast to broadcast via YouTube with a national group to help generally pinpoint tornadoes & dangerous weather anomalies until YouTube shut us down for “copyright whatever” threats even though we used the for education only & only short screen recordings. It was 2011 when all hell broke loose weather wise.

How I miss The original Intellicast. Hope Wynderground version works as well.

Here are a few more sites:

An interesting one, free

23. IBM acquired it a few years back

On October 28, 2015, Jeff Masters noted that IBM had officially announced an agreement to acquire The Weather Company business-to-business, mobile and cloud-based Web properties, including Weather Underground, WSI, weather.com, and also the Weather Company brand. The Weather Channel television service remained a separate entity, later sold to Entertainment Studios in 2018.[12] The deal was finalized on January 29, 2016.[1]

On October 3, 2019, Jeff Masters announced that he will be leaving Weather Underground.

Yeah, it used to be better, maybe because it used to run by meteorologists and not simply as a commercial business.

We have a nearby neighbor who has a weather station tied to WU. When we had high winds and even higher gusts, the display used to report the change immediately. Now, I have to refresh the screen over and over to get anywhere close to the same information. I wrote to them asking why the change, and their response was pure nonsense.

I've been a wunderground.com subscriber for many years - my weather station is tied in to its network.

Haven't had any recent problems but I am aware that that segment is being consolidated under corporates. Not sure if it is to achieve economies of scale or to capture markets and advertising.

I used to use WeatherSpark but it seemed to close down. Now I just saw that it has a presence. It relied on Adobe Flash (a horrible design decision, IMHO) and didn't seem to want to move to HTML5.

Just earlier today I saw a reference to Ventusky - pretty cool!
