Amy McGrath, a Democrat and former Marine fighter pilot, has officially filed to challenge Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in Kentuckys 2020 US Senate election.
In the 2018 midterm elections, McGrath narrowly lost to Rep. Andy Barr (R-Ky.) to represent the states 6th Congressional District. During her first months on the campaign trail before officially establishing her candidacy, McGrath outraised McConnell and other Democrats by bringing in nearly $11 million.
In 2016, Trump carried Kentucky by nearly 30 points. But last month, Gov. Matt Bevin, the nations Trumpiest governor, lost his reelection bid to Democrat Andy Beshear, after President Donald Trump campaigned for Bevin and said a loss for the unpopular incumbent would send a really bad message. The president pleaded, You cant let that happen to me!
McGrath believes Beshears win helps her chances in 2020. It absolutely gives us momentum, she told the Associated Press, because it shows that against an unpopular Republican incumbent, a Democrat can win. McConnell is the countrys most unpopular senator in his home state, with 50 percent disapproval, although hes still the heavy favorite in deep-red Kentucky.

(21,130 posts)Kentucky coal minersalong with the rest of uswill be paying the price to keep the government running next year. And we can thank Kentuckys senior senator, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, for the sellout.
Buried in the giant $1.4 trillion government spending package that McConnell ushered through the Senate last week was a relatively modest $15 billion, 30-year payout to sustain the Black Lung Disability Trust Funda boon to the majority leaders home state coal miners. As many as 1 in 5 of coal miners suffer from black lung.
But heres the kicker: What McConnell had removed from the must-pass funding legislation. In order to keep the government running, McConnell threw out provisions that would have forced coal companies to commit to higher payments toward the health-care costs of their employees and retirees, nixing requirements to extend the commitment period and modestly increase the tax on coal mining companies that are supposed to support the trust Fund
Basically McConnell threw out provisions that would have forced coal companies to commit to higher payments toward the health-care costs of their employees and retirees.
With Moscow Mitch only the rich corporations are the ones hes watching out for.
Wake the f Kentucky!!!!
