BREAKING: Gov. Justice approves firing of all involved in Nazi-like salute
December 30, 2019
10:49 am
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WVVA) - Gov. Jim Justice announced today that he has received and reviewed the official report completed by the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety related to the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation Academy Class 18 and has approved the recommendations submitted by DMAPS Secretary Jeff Sandy.
As I said from the beginning, I condemn the photo of Basic Training Class 18 in the strongest possible terms. I also said that this act needed to result in real consequences terminations and dismissals. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated on my watch in any agency of State government.
We have a lot of good people in our Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety. But this incident was completely unacceptable. Now, we must continue to move forward and work diligently to make sure nothing like this ever happens again.

(81,110 posts)There HAVE TO be consequences for this shit. If this happens and theres no price to pay, then itll keep on happening.
If theres any doubt, look at trump. That impeachment is probably the first time hes faced an ACTUAL penalty for his shit. And this one will stick to him like tar and duct tape for all of history. In every history book, wiki or other online reference source, EVERYTHING. From now on. And all the spinning and dancing and waffling and lying and baloney-spewing and bullshitting and distracting and deflecting and what-abouting and other assorted excuse-making and water-muddying will NOT change that. Its a FACT. And thats what it will ALWAYS be. Its the kind of fact from the REAL reality world outside the Pox Noise/trump/GOP bubble-world.
This is no wish sandwich - as the Blues Brothers would say - where you have two pieces of bread and you wish you had some meat. The republi-CON version of that is: you think (or believe) if you just keep calling it that, something will somehow magically appear between those bread slices to transform it into a legitimate sandwich.

(67,782 posts)....discord between the two parties. In fact, there have been occasions where our republicans have been more open to working together than some of our Democrats.

(807 posts)He then switched parties and pledged his support for Trump. He is a coal Barron who doesnt pay his taxes. He did one right thing but it was probably because The Appalachian Storage billions was not included in the federal budget. Just what we need more chemical and oil related storage and cracker plants and more plastics.

(2,227 posts)Let their families, friends, associates KNOW how they feel.
Just losing their job will just make them feel like martyrs. They should have NO, or at least a minuscule support network to fall back on. They need to know what it feels like to REALLY be an "other" that no one wants in their lives.

(17,881 posts)Never, ever give Nazis a pass....ever. They must be rooted out root and branch before they ever have a chance to spread. But, unfortunately, that's not happening now. I think somewhere we lost some of our institutional memory when it comes to fascists, particularly the Nazis flavor. Maybe as the greatest generation dies off, the emotion of it dissipates. It's becoming as real to some as the War of 1812...their grandparent's or great grandparent's war. My parents are WWII generation and it wasn't until very late in life that dad opened up somewhat about his experiences in Europe 43 to 45. It was gut wrenching. No wonder he wanted to simply put it away and forget it. Much of it he took to his grave. And his white hot rage when Nazis marched in Skokie in the late 70's made perfect sense. He literally wanted to kill every single one of them with his bare hands.
These people...all of them...need to be severely punished. Part of their punishment should be 24 / 7 holocaust documentaries and Shindler's List until it finally gets through their thick skulls that this shit is real, deadly and the heart of evil.

(22,065 posts)the white power symbol and they explained it away as being something else. That excuse was BS. This governor didn't put up w/ any nonsense and fired the whole batch of them. Good! We need more like this guy in office, who isn't afraid of doing what's right. What's really pathetic is that I don't see a single one of the students pictured above who's not doing the salute. Not a one.
Hamlette
(15,408 posts)who some cadets said forced them to use the salute. (ps Byrd is female). But if you click through the link provided in the op to the original article by WVVA (whatever that is) you see this:
The photo is captioned, "Hail Byrd."
The late Senator Robert C. Byrd was briefly a member of the Klu Klux Klan, but he left the group and denounced racial intolerance.

Disappointing that the media doesn't do the leg work.

(2,212 posts)They just randomly add a reference to the senator without any context?
The students were "hailing Byrd" (their instructor not the senator).

Trump and his Nazi loving stupidity is an insult to all the military who fought in WWII. Our parents and grandparents who fought against Hitler would be absolutely ashamed of this president and these Nazis.

These are not compassionate, empathetic, humane, human beings.

Because it only gets worse if you do.
They see that as weakness and an opportunity to treat others as second class citizens, without rights
