(58,785 posts)in that respect. The ability to search on names took care of that. Citizens, arrestees, attorneys, insurance company adjusters, political opponents, anyone can do it. And of course the departments themselves have the capability and duty to perform deeper searches that eliminate ability to claim ignorance.
Also, hiring and arming these miscreants exposes a municipality to serious liability, and insurance is prohibited by law from covering illegal acts. These days insurance companies always do their own searching.

(48,958 posts)slurs. He broke into the home ... and then terrorized. This isn't a "what happens in (a city, not mine ala Las Vegas) stays is (a city not mine.) This was a PTS-inducing incident that could have become a fatality.

15 days in jail, and 3 years on probation, seems rather light - given the trauma inflicted on this family.
