Do you think this Iran attack will help Trump win again in 2020?
Historically, wars have boosted Presidential elections, especially Republicans. That's of course why Trump is doing this, and based on responses from Republicans and his supporters over this, they think this is awesome.
Will this be enough to push him over the edge? I seriously cannot handle another 5 years of this.

They claim to be offended by his associating with guys like Bolton and others from the Bush era.
He should lose them if they are honest about their beliefs, though I suppose he may gain back some neo-cons. |

10. If Trump goes to war
he'll get crushed like McCain in 2008. Maybe worse. After the debacles in Iraq and Afghanistan, this country has no stomach for war.
I think Trump will lose decisively to Biden anyway, but an increase in hostilities with Iran would ensure his defeat. |

21. The Gulf of Tonkin...
...was bullshit.
But it worked because "we were attacked". Bush had plenty of good will due to 9/11....his Iraq war tanked his popularity, the economy tanked it ever further than thought possible. When the Marine Barracks were attacked in Lebanon, Reagan realized we would get caught up in a civil war that would bleed us, so he got us the hell out of it. It was a good decision. This shit won't help him, except with his base....witch he already had. I'd bet even Bolton thinks this was a bad idea. |

28. Seven simple steps
1) Start a war in the Middle East.
2) Provoke them into attacking U.S. targets, especially civilian. 3) Create chaos in U.S., so that Trump can denounce people calling for his impeachment as “traitors” 4) Incite mob violence against Trump critics/media/Democrats/foreigners 5) Declare martial law. 6) Cancel elections, or simply disrupt vote counting in Blue states/cities. 7) Civil war, or dictatorship, or both. |

35. Nope
There's no American causus belli here, and frankly its rather embarrassingly obvious that this was done at Trump's behest (and likely bypassing the Joint Chiefs of Staff). Moreover, a war with Iran will give the Iranians an excuse to put a stranglehold on the Straits of Hormuz, which will send oil prices skyrocketing. Most Europeans do not support the US sanctions on Iran to begin with, but they're really not going to be happy with a pitched battle in the gulf.
What's more, with the US occupied in the Middle East, it draws troops out of NATO, which gives Putin a chance to invade the Baltic States, complete its takeover of the Ukraine and at a minimum re-establish the old USSR borders. It gives China an opportunity to flex its muscles in aid of its ally, Iran, and likely will result in the reoccupation of Taiwan. Finally, in the confusion, all of the other dominos, such as North Korea invading South Korea, will begin to fall as well. This will all happen quickly, within months. Happy 2020! |

40. The Republicans will support him 100%.
Fat Donnie's approval among Repugs has never gotten below 90%. Most of the time it's been 98%. This will solidify his base, too, because it reinforces the image he's been creating of a "strong leader."
