WSC visited the US in 1932 and was hit by a car (he looked the wrong way when crossing the street) and seriously injured. But it provided him a prohibition hack in the form of a Doctor's note:

I bet his liver was pretty messed up, eventually. The writers made fun of his drinking habits in Darkest Hour, a great movie worth seeing.
