Mike Mills of R.E.M.: "we do not condone the use of our music by this fraud and con man"

Mike Mills ❄️💨⛄️ ✔ @m_millsey

We are aware that the President* @realDonaldTrump continues to use our music at his rallies. We are exploring all legal avenues to prevent this, but if that’s not possible please know that we do not condone the use of our music by this fraud and con man.

I am not saying that his people also pirated their music off the Internet, but you never know with that crowd of use and abuse.

They played "Losing My Religion" - must've gone over well with the fundies in the audience.

Exhuming McCarthy?
Welcome to the Occupation?
Bad Day?
It’s the End of the World As We Know It?
Hollow Man?
Everybody Hurts?

There are so many appropriate songs.

Not that they would EVER realize it, but that song would be a nice backhand to his idiot supporters...Exhuming McCarthy was always a favorite of mine from the REM catalog.

Trump's propaganda is sourced from the best propagandists in the world - the KGB.

I'm sure there are well researched reasons why those songs resonate with Trump's base. I'm not a psychologist, but I guess that his base feel that they are abused by the liberal elites - thus "everybody hurts" - and of course we libs are stealing their religion - war on Christmas, etc - so they're losing their religion.

You can't say he didn't let us know before the election what to expect.

In Trump's own words, "You knew I was a snake when you let me in!".

Those aren't his words. That asshole co-opted the lyrics of the song "The Snake" (lyrics by Oscar Brown Jr.) to read at his rallies as a xenophobic trope. Unfortunately he and his idiotic followers are/were too stupid to see the irony of a snake reading "The Snake."

I'm sure his KKKlan rally cult wouldn't care...I sure wouldn't. Watching his rallies is painful. Watched a few early on...can't stomach the freaks and the mini-Mussolini's schtick.
