Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMSNBC reporting that some Republican Senators have "resorted to prayer" to get them
through this difficult time. Perhaps we will see footage of penitant republicans going to church tomorrow. (I expect no sackcloth and ashes, however).
Now, we are told that we must "hate the sin but love the sinner." But that is only if the sinner fully repents his/her sin against us and promises to never do it again. Prayer might help a few of them, if they are truly sorry and fear going to hell along with their beloved Trump, if they renounce him and the devil for whom they toil.
Somehow I don't see that coming...and, frankly, I don't care. If you republican Senators don't "walk the walk" (if you still know what that is) I don't wanna see you making a big show with Bible in hand at your local church tomorrow and your fervent beseechings to pray for Trumps family.
No, let Trump resign in ignominy and seek his forgiveness on his own time and without cameras.

(14,162 posts)The human mind is so vulnerable to clan mentality leading to mental illness. We're so damn creative we loose track of reality and start believing our concocted dreams. Then when faced with survival we double down on those myths. Magic vs. math. Kill the beast vs. cooperation.

(21,611 posts)repentance or being saved or whatever is just BS. If there is a God, I suspect it's in your permanent record/ rap sheet, whatever. That's just in case we get caught, we're still OK. Such bullshit. How about just acting decent to begin with?? Not even Christ-like, just decent, LAW-abiding (since you are LAW-makers) human beings? FCS, is that too much to ask? I know it's a rhetorical question...

31 When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 Before him kwill be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, xI was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me. 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you? 40 And the King will answer them, Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,6 you did it to me.
41 Then he will say to those on his left, Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me. 44 Then they also will answer, saying, Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you? 45 Then he will answer them, saying, Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me. 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.

(54,566 posts)In psychology, the entities between which a causal relation has to be posited are more strictly delineated; here it denotes the belief that one's thoughts by themselves can bring about effects in the world or that thinking something corresponds with doing it.[1] In both cases, the belief can cause a person to experience fear, seemingly not rationally justifiable to an observer outside the belief system, of performing certain acts or having certain thoughts because of an assumed correlation between doing so and threatening calamities.
In psychiatry, magical thinking is a disorder of thought content;[2] here it denotes the false belief that one's thoughts, actions, or words will cause or prevent a specific consequence in some way that defies commonly understood laws of causality.
