I'm off (but you knew that) for MLK day. Trying to see coverage of the Ammosexual fest downtown. Very little coverage on any of the news networks that I can see.
I have it on in the background- it's cleaning day here for my daughter and I.

So I see that Peter Schweitzer will be on Hannity tonight. Schweitzer's book is the impetus for the whole Hunter Biden nonsense.
Oooh look. On the eve of the Senate Impeachment hearing Fox News has Joe Piscipo on to offer his insights on Prince Harry.

(16,829 posts)I am thinking of cancelling my cable to get Sling - and save some money.

(34,131 posts)Though I was ready to cancel it when they added Fox in between CNN and MSNBC on their guide. Then I figured out how to edit the guide and no longer see Fox or any of the other right wingnut propaganda channels, so all is good.
I have Sling Blue + the News package - about $30 a month. If I wanted DVR, that is about $5-10 more. Pretty much this includes all the basic cable channels, though I don't watch many of those.
If you want to cut the cable, also look at the regular streaming services, such as Netflix or Hulu. I have Netflix, dropped Hulu, and since I have Amazon Prime, watch it. Then for the British programming I love, I have Acorn TV and Britbox. There are free channels with commercials, but also NASA-TV, PBS (if you are a contributer, streaming is included, though YouTubeTV has a lot of local PBS stations streaming now that are not on the regular streaming PBS channel), and a bunch of others.

(182,585 posts)I get the locals (they all have 3 channels - reruns and weather) and 4 PBS channels.

(34,131 posts)The local PBS station is in a completely different direction than pretty much all the commercial stations, plus it is about 33 miles away as the crow flies. In order to get the PBS station, I have to get an antenna that will be above the ridge we're just over - and that might possibly work, no guarantees.
We're getting ready to do an addition to the house and part of the electrical contract is for them to add a rooftop antenna. We already have a distribution box that we used for our satellite TV and PrimeTV which was cable over internet. We can re-use the coax that was installed from the satellite dish to connect to the antenna. I just hope that will get it high enough to get reception from the southwest!
I just don't watch much commercial TV anymore. Their series worth watching will eventually end up on a streaming channel. Same for the PBS carried British mysteries I love, though the final year of Endeavor is only available on Fandango for money so far.

(25,586 posts)Which of these two are you using/enjoying more? Im using a buttload of streaming services already but Id like to add one (but only one) of these.

(34,131 posts)Acorn has The Murdock Mysteries, Brokenwood Mysteries, and others I really enjoy. BritBox has Silent Witness, Classic Doctor Who, and more. Pretty much I think they are both worth the cost. If I had to only get one, I'd pick one, watch everything on that one, then drop it and get the other.

(25,586 posts)Classic Dr Who would make the difference. I had that service years ago but dropped it for something else.

(34,131 posts)The last season of Murdock is coming on each Monday now, and I have not been able to get through all the Classic Doctor Who episodes yet. Then, since I have Prime, I can watch the newer ones!

(182,585 posts)We have the Hulu Disney amazon prime things as well but we'd have that anyway.
We have Sling Blue and Orange. I think it's $30 a month. Compared with cable. I watch way less TV. ESPN FOOD COMEDY CENTAL IFC AMC TBS TNT etc. I'd highly recommend it.

Fox sure seems to have quite a DU fan base.
