Every vote ended with the same total, 53 to 47.
It does appear that they had already given their word that they would not vote for any witnesses or documents until all the arguments were closed. Even Mitt Romney said he would not vote for John Bolton until the process that McConnell created had run its course.
Either Trump or McConnell had talked with all these Senators before the trial started, and they naively agreed to not vote for anything until the end. All the votes were preordained. That was fairly obvious after the very first vote for documents.
Republicans were united. They were not listening to facts or evidence. They were going to timidly follow their corrupt leaders wherever they wanted to go.

It was a profoundly sad night.

Enough evidence that will either put them behind bars for a very long, or at the very least result in expensive divorce proceedings...

(3,245 posts)it's that those votes were to table the amendments, not to dismiss them.
But as it stands right now, the first set of ads should be being made right now, highlighting the hypocrisy of these initital votes.
Even though no subpoenas are being issued, I still think we win the first round.

(5,268 posts)Opening arguments won't finish until next Tuesday after 3 days from Dems and 3 days from Repubs. Romney and Collins were very specific about not voting for witnesses/documents until after all the opening arguments. Yesterday was not considered opening arguments, only debating the procedural resolution.
Problem though as explained by Schiff is that resolution passed yesterday not only pushed possible later vote on witnesses and docs to not only after opening arguments, but also after all of the questions from Senators have been asked and answered which is ridiculous.

(12,463 posts)Because they believe they are better than other people.
Think they have a divine rights to rule, and they want an aristocratic government. That's why they do not care about democracy or the Constitution, thier oaths or checks and balances.
They are treasonous because of what they believe.
