Wondering why the Senate may, for the first time in history, not hear from witnesses in an impeachment trial?
*Kindly* pound this into your head:
A majority of the Senate represents 18% of the population.

(296 posts)The framers of the Constitution had no way of knowing that their newly formed Country of approximately 13 million people would someday have a single state with a population of 40 million. California has more people than the bottom 16 States combined. While some of those States lean left, the majority leans right, which gives the bottom 16 States 32 Senators, while California only has TWO. We have been under minority rule for a couple of decades now, but recently the right wing has gone completely off the reservation. They are not compromising or doing what is best for the people, but favoring only the rich and the large corporations.
There is no argument that the House of Representatives balance out the Senate, because the Senate has more power passing laws, appointing judges and confirming Cabinet members.
There should be a way to stay with 100 Senators, but re-appropriate them according to populations. It is only going to get worse as more and more people are heading to suburbs and cities from rural areas.
