She's saying that a group of Repug Senators are listening but the circular argument in their head says they need their job in order to contain Trump from doing worse things. How absurd.
If these Repug Senators are really that worried about Trump doing worse things - they can take care of that by voting to remove him from office. Once they do that - they will be rid of him.
Trump won't be able to touch them - he'll be too busy trying to stay out of jail because the SDNY will be coming after him
Come on Claire - get real here.

(24,394 posts)If they are continually voting for his rotten judicial nominees and otherwise failing to hold him accountable for anything, how in the world do they tell themselves that they are "doing something"? Why don't they just pack it in and go home? THEY.ARE.COMPLICIT!

(25,224 posts)I thought too that she was doing an outstanding job.
But imho she just provided the Repugs with another mealy mouthed excuse to vote to acquit.
If that is their thinking - all these Repug Senators are cowards.

(12,564 posts)Like any other mob boss, Fat Donnie rules by fear. He has but to summon his enforcers ("the base" ) and they'll wipe out anyone who displeases him for any reason, real or imagined.
The sad thing -- well, one of many sad things -- is that the Repugs don't realize that by acquitting Trump they are forever giving up Congressional oversight of the Executive. Like Two Scoops said just today, "We have all the material, they don't."
He will seen acquittal as a total exoneration for everything he has ever done in his entire life, even before he cheated his way into the Oval Office. He'll see it as carte blanc to do whatever he wants -- fire any district attorney who is investigating him or one of his big donor friends, eliminate any department that hates and keep only those he likes (i.e., the military and immigration and asylum prevention departments), establish fundamentalist Christianity as the official state religion, strip the SCOTUS and FBI of their funding and thus their ability to exist.
By acquitting Trump, the Republicans in essence will have torn up the Constitution and ended the Great American Experiment. Trump will claim, "It was a lousy deal negotiated by a bunch of losers. Only I can fix it."
We should send every Republican congressman a red hat with "TRAITOR" embroidered on it. They would be made in China, of course.
