Is Trump a blessing in disguise?

It certainly doesn't feel like it right now but as the Republican base shrinks and the Democrat's base grows, isn't Trump clearing the way for Democrats to act any way they want to act in the future? Why would Democrats have to abide by laws that Republicans clearly flouted? Liberal policies may come in bunches in the not too distant future. Could Trump actually usher in a liberal cultural tidal wave by the mid-twenties?

I'm not sure but it certainly makes for good fodder to feed the paranoia on the Right.

and such among fellow Americans, who see them openly flouting the rule of law, by allowing this sham of a trial to proceed w/o evidence being allowed and witnesses to testify. In what other trial would this be allowed? I'm surprised that Justice Roberts has allowed such a blatant disregard for both sides to fairly present their arguments. I thought that perhaps he would counter any such blatant attempts by one side or the other to be so one sided.

And not just politically and legally. I do think it's good for Dems to get over the "Queensberry Rules" approach they've had for so long, but I think the public also needed to be reminded of some things.

This has also thoroughly demonstrated to us where the weak points in our democracy are. Those NEED to be dealt with when we take back power- from the Electoral College, to the Senate, to oversight of the executive, to election integrity and voting rights, to foreign influence, to money's role in politics, to our media's role, and the role of truth in our society. This is a world that is rapidly moving forward, and democracy is going to need to adapt.

in such a way to win elections, and particularly in an election year, they try to appear as likeable to the largest amount of people as possible. This year, the repubs are clearly not concerned about 'swing voters'. It is almost as if they have a secret about the election that we don't know.

I hate conspiracies, but could it be that part of their promotion of Q anon is to make us less likely to embrace anything that seems like a conspiracy theory. This would be similar to the way Trump kept talking about the 2016 election being rigged, making it very hard for the Democrats to make the same claim after the fact. Maybe it's as simple as voter purging or disenfranchising in vulnerable districts, or maybe it is much more criminal. All I know is that things are not as usual.

will take years if not decades to correct.

He has made hatred and bigotry "okay" again for a large swath of the country.

Don't think people are going to suddenly have a liberal epiphany and wake up understanding things they don't have the slightest clue about today.

Sorry, it doesn't work that way.

We needed to win in 2016 and we fucked up horribly by losing.

Many people are suffering because of Trump, who would not have suffered or who would have suffered less under Hillary.

We lost 2 Supreme Court appointments because trump was "elected." The damage he's done to the country, the environment and the world is incalculable. That sounds like an argument made a few years ago by Stein voters. I didn't agree with it then, I don't agree with it now.

I have thought the same thing myself. This has been a time that should wake people up to their responsibility to be vigilant and informed. It is like one if by land, two if by sea, and three if by Internet.

However, this crux is a real crisis. If Trump and his complicit Republicans don't succeed, then we may have a real impetus to face the changes that are imminent in this century and reckon with the critical issues that are festering and require attention.

The damage he has caused would take decades to repair.

Notice I used the word would, not will.

I have no confidence the damage will ever be repaired.
