(24,436 posts)I hope it's contained quickly. it appears to be a serious threat in the region.
The human toll is first and foremost, but I can't also help but think of the other creatures who will pay a price. This apparently came from eating snake meat which is common in parts of China, snake is a good source of protein. Eating dog is also common in some of these parts, with snake off the menu, the dog farms will increase their number of animals to meet increased demand.

Can epidemiologists or public health professionals trust the reported numbers from China?
Is anyone familiar with the reporting protocols?

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
