And our democracy and fragile. It is not guaranteed. You can't sit back and expect to have one due to all the forces that vehemently oppose it for various reasons, be they economic, religious, political or wresting power from the people.

Our civic duty is to be very vigilant about the nature and safety of it and to remain as informed as we possibly can about that. Rather than complain or merely react and be shocked, we should expect affronts on all fronts from time to time and gather the strength and ability to respond accurately and with perseverance at all costs, because, once it is gone, it might just be gone for good. This is one of those times, no doubt about it.

Democracy is not a thing out there somewhere. It is you and me. We are democracy itself. The will of the people for the common good is our banner and truth, freedom and justice for all are our way.
