Yes, the commercials are jarring, but they have been limited.

I like hearing from Nicolle and panel when they go to break, so I put up with it. But, PBS (and of course, c-span) are running without ads.

The network sells advertising to support itself. The advertisers pay for the network to place the ads at various times in the day. They have a contract to do that. And yes, it really is necessary because that's how the broadcast is made possible. With money. Like it or not.

that is, supported by sources other than advertising. Don't like the ads? Watch PBS or C-SPAN.
